With a 3d object, it is not as easy as "this is how much you should compress the ball" like it was with frisbees.
What matters, is how much you change the internal pressure on the ball.
So, A single wheel can compress the ball to a smaller diameter than a long roller because it has less contact area.
All that being said:
Our prototypes ranged from 2 to 8 inches. But you are best off making a prototype, or designing something that can adjust the compression easily.
OR, look into using gas shocks. The rule of thumb is to compress with 3-4 times the weight of the ball. A quick search for should clear up any confusion. (I particularly like 1902's 2008 bot)
