Chairman's Award

Posted by Carrie at 2/3/2001 5:29 PM EST

In the rules for Chairman's award, it says that it must be a certain size. Does this size requirment mean the size of the box it is shipped in or the size of item being entered.
Confussed and needs help!

Size- 15 minutes long tapewise..otherwise:
the submission as a whole must take about 15 minutes to view (all materials)
scrapbook size doesnt matter (not too large i hope!!) and the tape must be VHS.

those are the specs!

good luck team rusher. say hi to the wedgiebot for me!!

peace, love, and gracious professionalism

Let's say that the award expands, and doesn't fit into the dimensions above, but what if it is packaged in those dimensions?

>>The Manual specifically states and I quote,
"Submission must not ("not" is bolded and itlics)
more than 12 inches wide, 12 inches long and 3
inches high"

So if I was you I would scrap the plan you have now
and get onto a new one, quickly!!!.

Kyle- rule 1, i learned it today: only press submit once
Subject 2- You know, last year it was 15 (I know, I helped out with a finalist award winning submission)so maybe i am living in the golden era.
Subject 3- my area of the team has nothing to do with the rule book, therefore i do not have one (nor have i ever read one, actually!)
Sorry for mistating specs. Keep reading that rule book!

You don't read the rule book AT ALL? On our team we spend all sunday morning after Kickoff photocopying and spiral binding...every member of the team recieves a small book of the rules of the game...and then theres add-ons, depending on your team (mechanical & electrical get the robot rules, the awards team gets the awards pages, etc.).

Its a really spiffy thing to carry around with you, 'cause it's very thin (right after Kickoff I spend the first week carrying it around with me, reading it every chance I get and showing the pictures to anyone who wants to know what the game is).

It's a good system to have, the team seems to pick up the rules quicker that way. Thats all, dont think Im busting on you because you don't read the rule book, your team is still very spiffy

Well actually, I have little to no time to read it. I haven't ever really had a need to- everything I ever did, the rules were just told to me. Now, I am just working on the webpage and I know most of the rules for that (and they are accessible under FAQ's on usfirst.org). And besides, if I knew the rules, people would be asking me about them, and then, in the tradition of erin, I would probaby be quoting them wrong

Erin and a rule book- maybe a bad idea?

Erin

Carrie,
To answer your question..
I believe that your whole submission must fit into the size requirements.
So...let's say, for instance, that you put your scrap book and video in a really neat box...That box must fit the size requirements. If you are sending, just a book and a video, than I believe it works like robot check in..The judges size your submission to see if it meet size requirements.
I know my junior year on the Baxter Bomb Squad, we made a box to place our submission in; however, the box had to meet the size requirements.

And yes, your sumbmission must be viewed in 10 minutes. So be clear, concise, and creative. Just a little note, the Bomb Squad's 2000 submission could have in no way been viewed in 10 minutes. I personally cannot say whether or not the judges viewed our whole submission or not. However, we made sure that we included everything that we did. So if time runs out and they don't get to that part...oh well, I suppose...but what if they keep reading? There is always the possibility.

Hope this helps...
Good luck!
Becky A.
