Taigene van door vs Window motor.
The taigene van door motor will not hold weight while not powered. But a window motor will. What mechanism in the van door motor allows this to happen. I can not find any written description of how the van door motor available in First choice functions. I understand why is designed to work the way it does, but would like to share it functionality with the team.

The window motor locks because it contains locking pins. This is so a thief can't force down your car window. A van door locks in other ways, so its motor doesn't need locking pins.
If you don't want your window motor to lock, you can take out the locking pins. I don't have the procedure handy, but search is your friend. |

I seem to recall that the van door motor has a worm gear box, but the lead angles and friction angles are such that it can be back driven.

^^What Gary said. It is a function of the design of the worm gear system. (Yes, the window motor also has locking pins, and without them some window motors can be backdriven).
One year we put a Van Door motor on the same shaft as a Window motor. The window motor was essentially a brake, the Van Door motor was the muscle. We broke a window motor about twice per competition...but it was an easy replacement. |
