So How many Teams out there are going to need to put their robot on a serious diet??? 130 lbs huh?? Who came up with that number???? But I guess if the nuber were higher (like 200 lbs) we would still have teams that needed a diet!!!

We were pretty worried about or weight, until we weighed it the other day. We were only at 90 pounds with the battery and 90% of our components attached. Sure is a good thing aluminium is so light!

You are right... As soon as FIRST raise the weight limit of the robot, teams will quickly take advantage of that and get their hands on heavier materials. No matter how much they don't want to get near the limit, they will always try to create as perfect of a robot as possible, and that include putting more stuff in it, packing more and more little devices that will give the robot “the edge” here and there.

Even when my team are trying to build a really light simple robot, we are still pulling close to 130 lbs this year, without even knowing where it come from. We were trying to have a simple design, and oops... suddenly we are weighting 108 lbs or so... We can't even imagine building a "complex" robot.

So, this is going to happen over and over again. Better get the hand drills out and start drilling. Maybe in the additional hardware list they should include some sort of hot air balloon so that the robot can seems lighter. Well, at least they throw in the light in these two years of competition.

Rhode Warrior 2001 is very light. If I am correct it is
only about 90 pounds in Final form. Since we didn't
build anything complicated for the balls, and
sticked with the goals, this is how we got this low
weight.

Does Slim-Fast actually work on robots? Or are they stuck with that "Corrosive Acids" diet to lose weight?

oru robot was estimated at 189 pounds! And we actually managed to get it under weight by ten pounds (after a lot of cutting and drilling though).
