Vision Targeting
Hello! I've been wondering if the vision targeting is any different from last year. Is detecting the hot goals this year the same as detecting the reflective tape around the frisbee goals last year? What I mean by "the same" is "similar to program in Labview". Thanks!

Re: Vision Targeting
It's very similar in that it uses the IMAQ vision tools.
The example vision code is similar in that it does the same sort of "wait for image" and "process image" and "provide results" steps. The exact image processing details are different, of course. |

Re: Vision Targeting
Both 2013 and 2014 image examples are available. You can open both and see how things changed.

Re: Vision Targeting
There are differences this year that I've noticed:
1) the vision targets are behind the glass in the driver station. If you try to detect them at an angle (like us), the glass kills probably 50% of the light that reflects back to the camera. Bigger angles mean more lost light. Our great camera calibration from our home field was useless at the event. We learned a big lesson there: put some lexan in front of the vision target at home. 2) Delays and flutter in the mechanism that hides the hot-goal indicator result in having to wait a lot longer than we expected to be able to detect which goal is hot. If you're only shooting one ball, it's not a very big deal. If you're trying for multiple balls in hot goals, then this wait becomes significant. |

Both are behind the lexan.

Re: Vision Targeting
Both should be behind the lexan. In week one, some of the elements weren't on the truck resulting in the material being placed on top of the lexan rather than disassembling the upper portion of the driver wall. This was temporary and I believe it is still intended to be behind the lexan.
