Assist/defense team club

Well with all the clubs that are focused on scoring, I felt that the assisting/Defensive teams were under-represented. So how many assisting and defensive teams do we have out there? The Devastators love playing a good defense!!! . So here is some of our highlights. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Gf8fCm5thU

Re: Assist/defense team club

I think we definitely fit into that category this year. It helps when you have 6 4" x 1.5" Colson wheels that are custom treaded, 6 CIMs, and a crazy driver. Here we are playing some awesome defense at WPI.

And what a defense, it's not easy to go against 6 cim motors and 6 high traction wheels 2'' wide.
We were also a member of this club at one of our regionals

4454 definitely fits in this group. Looking to hone our skills in the offseason, and possibly adapt a more offense-based strategy!

I understand your pain! I hate when our C-RIO had to reboot. So here is a question how do you improve defense?

Re: Assist/defense team club

my team, 2046 loves to ram people (in the most graciously possible way you can when being a meanie head defender) but it's okay because then we had to face 4060 who were great defenders (They should have qualified for district championships)- watch the Semifinals in Auburn for the best example of us (specifically whenever 948 tried to inbound), and the finals for the best example of 4060

We are for sure a part of this club when called upon.

Playing smarter defense involves more in depth analysis of your opponents weaknesses. My students excelled at this at the Orlando Regional. We even managed to defeat the at the time number one seeded team using smarter defense. If a team has a specific spot the need to be in to shoot, keep them from getting there. If the team has to be a certain distance away to make their shot. Push them closer or further away.

Also prevent teams from getting to their target. I.e the ball. We kept teams away from their ball for almost 1/2 a driver control period once. By that point youre opposing team is sure a loss. This involves less pushing and more of an agile, get in front of you, approach.

http://youtu.be/rBbD0Hr1D3M

This match really was a highlight of how anoyying we were. Yes, that penalty was really badly called. The ball barely popped up onto our bumper and we were called for possession not pinning like the GA thought.

6CIMS all day.
