Re: Favorite 2014 Robots?

From MAR my favorite robot would have to be 1218 I loved how effective their intake was as well as their catapult. It was awesome to see such a quality robot.

Re: Favorite 2014 Robots?

3467 became one of my favorite robots as the year went on because they proved how you can utilize a VERY different design and still shoot better than everyone else.

Re: Favorite 2014 Robots?

In the NE District:
177 - Great Pickup, and almost never missed a shot (or their 2 ball Auton). Plus they caught numerous balls!

195 - Great Pickup, and quick shots that were deadly accurate. 195 was always a feared team at every competition. Plus alot of fun to play defense on

558 - Neat and Clean Looking, amazing drive team that's easy to work with. When 558 chooses a role, they dominate it!

230 - Best hammer bot! Really clean bot that constantly improved. Very easy to work with, and made it to so many final matches this year!

3467 - What an interesting robot! Truly a different bot! Their rank and awards really proves why they were a team to look up too.

2067 - SWERVE! and their drivers knew how to use it. By the end of the season, their catapult accuracy matched their swerve. At CT State Champs, they didn't rank too well but in eliminations pulled their alliance to the finals. A great robot to watch

Thanks, Sam!
Yeah, we were ranked quite low at CT Champs, because we were malfunctioning in our first two matches, and sat out the next two trying to fix it. So we lost those 4 matches, but after that, it went pretty well.
See you at WIWI

Re: Favorite 2014 Robots?

I really enjoyed 610's robot. The intake was like two little hands that rolled up the ball and kept in place. It's like a more El Toro Mini type thing.

1717 was also a nice design. It was very unique and quite effective as well. (So... many... wheels...)

This robot was designed like no other, and I would have done anything to see it in person :) I have so many questions I wanted to ask about their swerve modules, but alas we never got to compete together.

1939 Kuh-Nig-Its never fail to amaze me on their endless ideas of theming their robots as well as the work they do, especially with all of the conflicts that came to them at competitions we were at.

Re: Favorite 2014 Robots?

Slight bias to Galileo/PNW:

2481 - The Roboteers - Such an amazingly compact robot that managed to pack in a killer swerve drive, 270' intake and accurate catapult. My favorite bot this year.
33 - Killer Bees - Roller bar intake + catapult taken to the next level. I love the articulating side panels.
1730 - Team Driven - Awesome design, great drivers and sweet LED lights on the back.
2471 - Team Mean Machine - One of the coolest-looking bots this year with their claw+puncher design and swerve.

Re: Favorite 2014 Robots?

254 goes without saying. Same for 1114.

I think 4039 really nailed the simple but effective high goal scoring robot. Catapult is perfect for scoring in the high goal in the area immediately in front of the low goal and slightly beyond it. High release point, fairly flat trajectory. This is the robot I wish we built. 125 is somewhat similar.

973 read the game very well, better than almost anyone, and fielded a robot that could play any role but particularly excelled at the backcourt. They seemed to be the only team that really figured out how to use a goalie pole effectively, at least in the first weeks of competition. I think they built the perfect utility robot.

I've got more, but I wanted to get these two into the conversation.

973 is one of my favorites too this year. 67 and 2481 were very good, but in some ways 973 was the key to that alliance winning their division. Their goalie blocker led to the opposing alliance making only 1.56 autonomous shots against them. In all other matches, the same alliances made 2.87 shots per match. That 1.31 difference was significantly greater than 1114's and 469's (the two other teams with a large enough sample size).

Re: Favorite 2014 Robots?

Number one has to be 254. It's not just because they won champs but because they were quite simply the best robot/team in the competition this year. They had one of the most dominant robots we've seen in competition since probably 2010. Their design was very unique (it was simple and addressed the game challenges) and very well executed which is a deadly combination.
I could (*cough* have *cough*) spend hours drooling over 971's robot. The balance, simplicity, and efficiency of that design just inspires me. They did an amazing job fitting the mechanisms in a robot in a way that gave them amazing versatility on the field.
After those two (in no particular order) I really like 368, 3539, 1114, 33, 1717, 2485, 1986 to name a few. I'm sure I'm forgetting some robots but that's off the top of my head.
