Go to Post FIRST is again mirroring real life. And in real life, when we build and design robotic and automated systems, it's safety first. Hitting a human in real life loses a lot more than 30 points. - Fred Agnir [more]

Attention Teams Going to VCU/Langley Regional

Posted by Gui Cavalcanti at 02/27/2001 5:48 PM EST

Student on team #422, Mech Tech, from Governor's School (GSGIS) and Verizon.

Hey guys... this is for all FIRST teams going to the VA regionals; I didn't write it, the team's mom did.

----------------------------------------------

Hello!

If your team is like ours, your budget for spare parts is probably next to
nothing. In the spirit of Gracious Professionalism, most teams are more than
willing to swap unused kit parts to other teams at the regional and national
events.

We would like to offer our services as a sort of "swap meet central" for the
NASA Langley/VCU event next week. We will maintain a record of spares
available for teams to reference. Teams will keep their parts at their pits;
we'll just act as matchmaker. We have discussed this plan with Lori Ragas at
FIRST and Pattie Cook, the event coordinator for the Richmond regional, and
have their blessing to proceed. If this goes well, we hope to be able to do
the same thing at Nationals.

If your team would like to participate, please take a few minutes and drop me
a note indicating what motors, electrical components, and any other critical
or expensive kit parts you would be willing to bring to Richmond to trade.
Also indicate which parts you would like to find spares of. All parts for
swap should be in "straight out of the box" condition.

Your reply would look something like this:

Team XXX

Will bring:
Torque Motor
Left Window Motor
Van Door Motor
2 Globe Motors
1 Victor 883

Looking for:
Potentiometer
Drill Motor Assembly
Right Window Motor
Fisher-Price Motor Assembly
Large Muffin Fan

We look forward to hearing from you!

Dee Tomczak, Team Mom
GSGIS Mech Techs
Team 422
Governor's School, Richmond
