Broken Gears?

Has any of you EVER broken gears or the pins that act as axles for the planetary gears in a drill motor gearbox?

We've broken our share of gearboxes. Especially dragging around goals with last year's robot. It just wasn't geared for it.

We did a post-mortem on every one. While we broke lots of stuff, the gears or gear teeth were never on the list.

I may have over-estimated loads on a transmision I was planning to build until they changed the gear rules on us. If so look for it next year.

The only failures we have ever had with the drill gearboxes have been the housings cracking (from poor design of the mouting mainly) or the posts on the powered metal part that functions as the carrier for the planets on the last stage (which we never use any more since we use DrJoesDrillShaft if we have to use the transmissions at all).

Other folks may have other failures to report.

Do tell...
