Issues Dual-Booting Ubuntu and Windows 8.1

Hey everyone,
I came here because I figured this community could help me out best with this problem. I recently purchased a Windows 8.1 (w. Bing) laptop to do school and FRC work on. After installing Ubuntu and totally botching up 8.1 (partitioned hard drive wrong), ordered a new copy of 8.1 to install, seeing as I need Windows to run certain FRC-related programs. After it installed successfully, everything seemed fine. However, I later noticed that when booting up 8.1 through the Ubuntu dual-boot menu the resolution was locked in 800 x 600. I do not have this issue when booting up directly into Windows, but it gets annoying after a while to have to go back into BIOS and switch boot priorities whenever I want to change OSs. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this to happen and/or have a clue of how to fix it?
