Opinions on the AndyMark Dual Use Gyro and Accelerometer Sensor Board (am-2067)

Hello Everyone!

I hope everyone is having a good start to their build season! I have a question regarding the Andy Mark Dual Use Gyro and Accelerometer Sensor Board (am-2067). Has any team had success with this Gyro for simply measuring the angle of the robot and moving straight? Would there be a better Gyro for what I am looking for? Thanks for your time.

We've used that gyro for several years and it's been good enough. I think we've put it on 2 6WD designs and two Mecanum designs. It's purpose was the same as what you intend - to assist in going straight over uneven surfaces or when getting pushed around. The analog interface makes it pretty easy to use.

The Analog Devices ADW22307 is an old gyro and I don't believe you'll find one much longer. It doesn't seem to exist on the Analog Devices web site. Most of the new stuff is smaller, MUCH cheaper, and uses a digital interface.

We used this gyro on our mecanum last year, it worked fine for our field-oriented drive and keeping straight. It measured angle pretty well, but it drifts a bit so you'll have to compensate. We got it down to only a few degrees drift with some temperature compensation.

There probably are better gyros on the market, but for now that is what we are using.

Thanks for the input. Our team was personally wondering whether we purchase it on the AndyMark site (that model) or purchase the ADXRS450Z a newer model. I think we will be going for the newer model just so that we don't run into as many problems in the future.

The ADXRS450 is a digital gyro, so it won't work with the gyro class in WPILib. You'll need to write your own driver and integration.
