Starting Website

Our team has just started working on our team website, and we were wondering if we should put details about our meetings online. How much information is too much? What kind of information should we put on our website?

*I couldn't find a more relevant folder, so I just put it in general

Re: Starting Website

Some stuff that I might like to see on any team's website:
  • sponsors
  • team history
  • perhaps a way to donate to the team
  • contact info
  • build blog
This is general interest stuff for people not on the team. If you use the website to provide meeting info to members, that seems alright.

Note: I've never been much involved with our team's website.

Re: Starting Website

Our website includes meeting times, a link to the 2015 game, upcoming events, very brief news articles about recent events, pictures, videos, team history, and sponsors.

It would be a good idea to consult with your team about what is considered oversharing. For example, for safety reasons, we don't put the names of students on the website since most are minors.

Also, some teams share their design and strategy ideas while others keep this information close to the vest like a trade secret. That's a team decision but you should definitely check to make sure everyone agrees about what is OK to share.

You can check out our website for some ideas www.flash-1319.com. It's always good to get feedback from others so make sure you share the website with your team, other teams, and via social media.

Re: Starting Website

More content is never a bad thing. There is no such thing as too much information. However, (and as a web developer this is part of the beauty of websites) you have to place content appropriately.

Meaning you never want to have a page that's FULL of text, and you never want to have a page that's COMPLETELY links. You want a combination of content, and links.

We take "Daily Logs" but have not posted them to our site because...well our site isn't really taken care of, but I think they're a valuable part of our team because it lets other people in a quick glance know our progression and more importantly allows us to know our progression.

A website, is not only a source of current information, but it can also serve as a fantastic archive and archives can be great learning sources.

So medium answer to short - Yes. Post them. But make sure it's not a wall of text.

Re: Starting Website

You should definitely include a member list, and positions if you have them.
However, you may want to only include their initial (I.E. John D. instead of John Doe) for security/safety purposes.

Something that I haven't seen done yet is linking people's YouTube or other accounts that are personal but may have things related to the team on them.
