Division fields question

Posted by nick237 at 03/21/2001 9:19 PM EST

Engineer on team #237, sie h2o bots, from Watertown high school ct and sieman co.

Just a quick thought. There are four divisions and four fields in Florida, will each division hold all their games during the elimination games on the same field, or will they play on different fields like last year.
If you have to play on just one field it would make scouting very easy but difficult if all four fields are used, especialy if you have a small team and limited scouts
If we play on only one field I hope that the division our team is on plays on the main out side field that the finals are played on as we would have an advantage of knowing the quality of the ramp as oposed to teams that had to pass the elimination games on the other three fields.
Does any one know the set up system for Florida and if not how should it be done in your opinion?

Yes there will be 5 fields, if they stick to the diagram that they showed at the kickoff. There will be 1 large outdoor field and 2 tents with 2 fields each.

And now for Nick's question. I hope that each division always plays on the same field. I don't like the outdoor arena that much because it is too hard to see and scout from. If I where doing things, I would only use the outdoor arena for opening ceremonies, awards, finals, etc. I would run all the qualifying matches and the first part of the finals on that division's field. Once you each division has its winner, they would go out onto the outdoor stage for a "final four".

There will be 5 fields at Nats (Einstein, Curie, Newton, Galileo, & Archimedes). Each division (Curie, Newton, Galileo, & Archimedes) will play on their field, with some matches from each division being played on the main stage (Einstein). So scouting wise, you'll have to watch your division's field all the time, and the main field some of the time.

Hey Mike,
You sound like you know what you are talking about. Here's one for you. When will we know what division we are in? Before the practice rounds or after?

That I don't know. The only reason I know this much about the rounds is I'm working with the SOAP people and they need to know all this info to set up their databases. I believe what I told you is information from Eric.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but my guess would be AFTER practice...usually, they don't even generate the matches until the end of Thursday night, just in case a few teams decide not to show up(not the case at GLR, thankfully)...that's just my guess on it though...

Thanks for the info mike, I knew some one like you would have the word.

thanks again
