2015- Minimum Competitive Concept

Quote:
I didn't get to go to a week 0 event this year, so I have a question for people who did. What would you say the MCC* is this year? and, what do you think it will take to get in the top 8?

*MCC = minimum competitive concept, or the simplest design that could make eliminations at almost every regional.
I saw this post in the week 0 thread and figured it deserved it's own thread. So what does everybody think about MCC's and the robots that will seed in the top 8?

MCC: A robot with a U shaped frame (not a requirement but useful) that can line up in front of the tote chute and simply make quick stacks of 3-6. A simple fork lift on an elevator driven by a winch can accomplish this task effectively. Having tabs on the forklift to grip the totes is almost a necessity for forklifts based on what I've seen thus far. It doesn't get much more simple than a drivetrain plus one motor.

Top 8 Robot: After watching 148 I'm still in a little bit of shock when it comes to this... Assuming most robots at an average regional aren't that incredibly... can't think of the right adjective but it's something good... I believe a top 8 robot will be able to make at least 2 capped stacks of 5 or 6 with an autonomous mode that can score points without the help of alliance partners. More importantly a top 8 team will need to effectively coordinate an alliance given the lack of space for teams to work without planning ahead. To seed in the top 8 at an average regional I believe you also need to score coopertition nearly every match.
