How 'bout those folks from Quincy!
Posted by P.J. Baker at 04/12/2001 2:21 PM EST
Engineer on team #177, Bobcat Robotics, from South Windsor High School and International Fuel Cells. It just crossed my mind that I had not posted to thank all of the great people from team 69 out of Quicny, MA. To start off, they hosted a great scrimmage/practice the friday before shipping. I believe that 8 or nine teams were there and they had GREAT food to for all of them. Then, they wedged their way to the NE Regional Championship with Gael Force, The Bobcat, Power Knights, and Buzz. To commemorate our victory, Mike Brown and company put together a fantastic T-shirt design incorporating all five team logos. Did they tell us the price to buy some for our team? NO!!! - each of the four other teams recieved a box of shirts at nationals, courtesy of Team HYPER. As if that was not enough, a group from the team came over during nationals and presented us with a very nice trophy. These guys are the best! I'm just sorry that I didn't get to catch up with many of them during Nationals. Hopefully they'll be at BattleCry in June. Thanks again HYPER! Hope to see you all this Summer. P.J. Baker Team #177 |

Coach on team #254, Cheesy Poofs, from Bellarmine College Prep & others and NASA Ames/Cypress Semiconductor/Unity Care. In Reply to: How 'bout those folks from Quincy! Posted by P.J. Baker on 04/12/2001 2:21 PM EST: As we found out this year - team 69 is one of those programs rookie teams and veterans can look to as a model. Great coaches, great mentors, great kids, and a great attitude. Not only did they build a great robot - but even more important was the way they carried themselves at the events. I know that the inspectors at UTC thought they were one of the most friendly, cooperative, and knowledgeable teams - and HYPER went out of their way to be a model team in Florida. (our kids were surprised and thrilled to get the "HYPER Most Versatile Robot" award.) Team 69 clearly "gets it" and is an example of what FIRST is all about. We hope to get to compete with them in Florida next year. |

Student on team #69, HYPER Team 69 Quincy Public Schools Gillette , from North Quincy High and The Gillette Company. In Reply to: I second that... Posted by Jason Morrella on 04/12/2001 5:48 PM EST: On behalf of TEAM HYPER 69 QUINCY PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND THE GILLETTE COMPANY, I would like to thank you for noticing! Our main goal this year was not to build a robot (It came in a close 2nd) But it was to build and strengthen our team along the main PRINCIPLES of FIRST. As students we owe great thanks to our teachers and mentors who guided us through the building process but even more so we as the students from TEAM HYPER should be proud! The students lead this team! Thanks for noticing and we hope to see you all in the post-season and if not then next year! CHRIS |
