regional location sports teams
I've been curious about this for a while (of course I could look it up), but it's more fun this way. I know most (some not all) regional/district competitions are held in stadiums and arenas that house sports teams,(we all know champs at the Edward Jones Dome houses the St. Louis Rams). What sports team does your regional/district competition location house? For the St.Louis regional at the Chaifetz Arena we have the St. Louis Billikens NCAA basketball team!

Re: regional location sports teams
Bayou Regional is in the Pontchartrain center in Kenner, LA. No pro sports compete there to my knowledge, though the bleachers would certainly support a small college or semi-pro basketball or volleyball team. Pontchartrain Center has mostly conventions, trade shows, and expos. (For those wondering, Pontchartrain Center is named after the lake (ok, actually an estuary) about a hundred yards north of the convention center. Lake Pontchartrain is 24 miles N-S, 40 miles E-W, and averages only 12-14 ft deep. It features the longest continuous roadway over water in the world, the 24 mile long Pontchartrain Causeway. Depending on the refractive conditions, you may be unable to see the trees on either shore when you're in the middle of the span.)

Re: regional location sports teams
I am attending eight events this year. The sports teams who work the events are:
For the Greater Toronto Central Regional it is the former site of the Maple Leaf Gardens where the Toronto Maple Leafs used to play (now where the ice previously was is a rather nice grocery store). Ryerson University Rams hockey, basketball and volleyball teams in the arena on the 3rd and 4th floors. For the Greater Pittsburgh Regional plated at the California University of Pennsylvania Convocation Center it is the home of the California Vulcans men and women's basketball and volleyball teams, For the New York Tech Valley Regional which is held at the East Campus Athletic Village home of the RPI Engineers men's and women's basketball teams. For Finger Lakes Regional the Gordon Field House host indoor track meets. For the Las Vegas Regional it is held at the Cashman Center which is a convention center. For the Chesapeake District Championships it will be held at the XFINITY Center - University of Maryland which is home to the University of Maryland Terrapins men's and women's basketball teams. For the Michigan State District Championships which is held at the Deltaplex which is home to the Detroit Pistons' NBA Development League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Drive. The FIRST Robotics Championship event is held in the Edward Jones Dome home to the St. Louis Rams. |

Re: regional location sports teams
This year's PNW DCMP (and the old Oregon Regional, RIP) will take place in Portland's Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The Coliseum was the home of the NBA's Portland Trail Blazers from 1970 to 1995, and is currently the home rink of the WHL's Portland Winterhawks. (Also, the Beatles played there in 1965 - how many other FRC venues can say that?) |

The WPI Harrington Auditorium, where in 2014 & 2016 an NE District event is/was held and in 2015 District Championships was held is home to the WPI Mens and Women's Basketball teams. Also, the pits overlook the swimming pool in the Sports and Recreation Center, where the Swimming and Diving teams practice and compete.

Re: regional location sports teams
The 2016 New England District Championship will be held at the XL Center in Hartford, CT. It currently is the home of the Hartford Wolf Pack Hockey Team, the AHL affiliated of the New York Rangers.
The XL Center also is the secondary home of the University of Connecticut's Champion Men's and Women's Basketball teams. This past season, UCONN's Men's Hockey Team moved their primary home to the XL Center as well. While they're not currently tenants, the Hartford Civic Center (original name of the XL Center) was home for many years to the Hartford Whalers of the National Hockey Team. The Whalers is an iconic part of CT culture, and even though the team left for North Carolina in 1997, you'll see Whaler shirts all the time. Needless to say a lot of exciting sporting events have gone down in this building, and it will be great to add the exciting DCMP action in April to it's legacy. |

Re: regional location sports teams
The OKC Regional is in the Cox Convention Center Arena, which has housed many minor league professional and college teams and events over the years (hockey / basketball). Presently, it is home to the OKC Blue, an NBA Developmental League team.
However, it is across the street (just a few steps) from the Chesapeake Energy Arena, home of the OKC Thunder NBA franchise. If anyone wants to come to OKC for a real treat (and/or a parking nightmare), the Thunder have a home stand during the FRC Regional this year. Tues, Mar 22: Houston Rockets Thur, Mar 24: Utah Jazz Sat, Mar 26: San Antonio Spurs Your team can have our place, since we can't compete Easter weekend. And I'll be at the basketball games! |

Re: regional location sports teams
The NYC Regional is held in the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. It is the 12th largest convention center in the country but dubbed the busiest. NYC First takes up the entire hall of 3B which is 158,000 sq.ft. Unlike a lot of other regionals it also hosts Jr.FLL, FLL, and FTC at the same time as FRC which is pretty awesome. There is also a lot of big businesses like Google, Bloomberg, and Goldman Sachs who set up booths there and give away stuff. The only bad thing about it is if you eat inside it will cost you an arm and a leg. Thankfully theres a hotdog guy right outside.
The SBPLI Regional (Long island) is held in the The David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex at Hofstra University. It holds the Hofstra Pride Basketball team and I believe volleyball team. |
