Random: Best FIRST away-messages?

Posted by Jessica Boucher at 04/25/2001 6:32 PM EST

Come on, admit it - you've all used/seen them at some point. For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about...away-messages are shown when an aol or aim member is away from the computer or can't be bothered (a little yellow post-it note will pop up next to their name to indicate if they're away). If you im that person, the away message will pop up, and your im is held until that person returns.

I'm an avid fan for interesting away messages, but even better are interesting FIRST messages. Soooo, what are some of your favorites?

-Jessica B, #237

PS - My fav:

"Noooo, silly, I don't wanna watch Silly, I wanna watch Philly" (conversation over whether to watch the Silicon Valley Regional or the Philadelphia Regional)

i have quite a few away messages...heres a good one of them:
more monopoly money is printed in a year then real money printed throughout the world....a 10 gallon hat holds 6 pints....if you yelled for 8 years, 7 months, and 6 days, you would have produced enough energy to heat 1 cup of coffee....eveytime you lick a stamp you consume 1/10 of a calorie....if you devide the Great Pyramid's perimeter by 2 times its height you get pi to the 15th digit....the average human eats 70 tons of food in a lifetime...India has 50000000 monkeys...dogs and cats consume almost $7 billion worth of pet food a year...the average computer user blinks 7 times a minute....a jellyfish is 95% water....august 8th is the start of 'national pickle week'...american car horns beep in the tone of f...the liquid inside young coconuts can be used as substitute for blood plasma...donkeys kill more people per year than plane crashes...

another is:
The problem with some people is that when they aren't drunk,
they're sober.
--William Butler Yeats

An intelligent man is sometimes forced to be drunk to spend time
with his friends.
--Ernest Hemingway

Drunk is feeling sophisticated when you can't say it.
--Anonymous

Abstainer: a weak person who yields to the temptation of denying
himself a pleasure.
--Ambrose Bierce

Reality is an illusion that occurs due to lack of alcohol.
--Anonymous

I never drink anything stronger than gin before breakfast.
--Anonymous

Work is the curse of the drinking classes.
--Oscar Wilde

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me, than a frontal lobotomy.
--Tom Waits

of course i know that theyre much too long for anyone to actually read them...

Most of my away messages tend to be rather
uninteresting except for one that I stole from
someone else. It is "Naked!!!!!!!!!!!" You figure
out what it means.

Matt who needs some new away messages....

classic: put your team's webpage here. people click links.

"building a robot out of dishwasher parts" (people actually believed that one)

"watching battlebots" hehehe

thats about it... i always like kristen's (131)... its always very long and says something about RCU, FIRST, CHAOS and life all in one

"Wicked" IS a Boston thing...those people in NH copied us!

For some reason, wherever I go, I have people ask me to say "I parked the car in Harvard Yard."

I reply, "I pahked the cah in Hahvahd Yahd."

FYI, I only recognize 25 letters in the alphabet...everything except that fake letta "r".
