Fly by's

When i was coming out of my class today at college (IUPUI), i noticed a LOUD sound of an airplane. naturally i looked up. i saw 4 F-16's flying directly over me and downtown Indianapolis!! i tought it was pretty sweet to see them fly by today. did anyone else's cities have a fly by during the day?

On August 20something an F-117 A Stealth Fighter flew over South Lake Tahoe while Bush was in Stockton, CA. Pretty low too.

Also, every year there are airshows at Edwards AFB and Van Nuys Airport in California. A few days before each show a bunch of military aircraft fly right over my house.

I once awoke to the deafening roar of an AV-8B Harrier hovering a few hundred feet above my house - at 6 am.

That was pleasant.

Also, I witnessed an F-15E take off after refueling at Macarthur Airport.

That's all.

I used to live right next to Moffet Field and NASA- Ames research center.
The P3's that patrolled the west coast would fly right over our house every day.
We'd sit on the roof to catch the air shows. The blue angels are really good, but that team that came from Italy once,.........Man those guys were tight! I haven't seen anything that amazing precision-wise since.

I'm a 1/4th mile off ofthe approach pattern for Dulles Airport, so I see lots of comerical planes allthe time. Havn't seen many military here. Have seen them at air shows and such at Andrews AFB. And stood at the end of the runway at LAW and saw really big planes about 300 feet over my head. That was cool.

Uhh...I've seen a propellor plane fly almost over me. And I've seen the engine exhaust from a commercial jetliner. Wow. The huge Towanda airstrip. Wow. The only thing you can see coming from that is their file-system checking light

(Happy? )

Once a B2 flew right over at an airshow and a harrier hovered right in front of me and then 200 or so feet above. It also did a high speed low altitude pass. That thing really can get moving in a jiffy. And a few times a Long EZ canard (pusher prop.) flew right over my house. Also really cool was that once a pair of ultralights flew right over my house. They were actually pretty high-up for ultralights. There's nothing like the sound of a couple of ultralight engines humming together.

Thumbs down

I guess there are some advantages to working for the /begin sarcasm/ evil military industrial complex. /end sarcasm/

So far I have been privileged to attend the following:

A private airshow put on by the F-20 Tigershark (before they bent two of them).

B-2 rollout and first flight via live video feed

F-23 first flight, again via video

JSF first flight (they'd laid so many people off, every one could go who worked on the program)

Not to mention engine testing down at P&W's test stand in FL.

This isn't counting going to public airshows or the occasional plant flyby from one of our products.

Yes, I worked on all these programs, and I've been on and off the F-18 program my whole career. Can you guess where I work?

BTW, It's not an airplane until there's air under the tires!
