What does a more relaxed atmosphere get you? The shows you cited are already incredibly laid back. What is the shows goal, or should I say, your goal with the show? How does using terms that appeal to students help them learn? I'm assuming this means simple terms. What makes you qualified to speak on these topics? That is, why should other students listen to you? Some would call this ethos. Cheers |

Re: The F4 Show - Brand new Student based weekly webshow
I really enjoyed being on as a co-host. It was great to sit down and have a discussion that was allowed to evolve and move as a regular conversation. Hope that this show continuesome to progress and that I get a chance to co-host again.

Our show is more laid back then what others have done. The topic is simply a starting point for more discussion and the chat is used much more. It's less formal and more interactive but, that's an aspect I personally like about live streams in general. The terms are not necessarily simpler. We definitely will get technical but, for the most part the jargon we use is slightly more geared towards other students. Right now the show is more for discussion and not for learning. In the future we might turn the tables slightly but I am going to play it by year. And lastly qualifications. Again I have 0 real qualifications. I am the Captain of an FRC team, have over 1,000 posts on Cd, and have some sort of knowledge in every aspect of FRC. People generally respect my opinion and I do get people that personally use me for design and team advice. I don't know if that's the answer you want but it's the best I can do. Maybe I'll become a dean's list finalist and have that to say . Thanks for the hard questions |

Re: The F4 Show - Brand new Student based weekly webshow
Could you post the live stream as a video so people can go back and watch it? I for one would be interested to hear other students' point of view on the game, strategy, etc. Great idea though, hope it can grow as the season goes on. It's good to see a change in pace in terms of webcasts.

Re: The F4 Show - Brand new Student based weekly webshow
To the people taking shots at the kid and his desire to host a show - how about you just don't tune in if you don't think it will be worth your while?
As Tyler said, there's a lot of kids in FRC who do have valuable opinions. We have all been there at some point. Hell, this whole program is built on the idea that kids should be allowed avenues to express their ideas. Why stifle that? I didn't get a chance to tune in either (Oscar stuff), but will try to check it out next time. Keep at it! . PS - I actually really want to hear from real students about how they feel about things such as bag day and build season length. CD and current shows are flooded with mentor opinions, and often enough, kids can't express how they really feel without criticism. This has the potential to help a lot of people better their own teams. . Last edited by Akash Rastogi : 29-02-2016 at 00:36. |

Re: The F4 Show - Brand new Student based weekly webshow
For everyone who's asking "why should I watch this show?"...watch the show, then determine for yourself if it's worth watching (Note: I had other things to do tonight and was unable to catch it).
Just because someone is a student doesn't mean their viewpoint isn't valid or well thought out. Just being a mentor doesn't automatically mean it is. All of these shows express opinions, it is up to the viewers to decide if those opinions (and thereby the show) are entertaining and worth listening to. At GameSense, we specifically don't invite students on as guests because we don't feel comfortable putting students/minors on camera in a live discussion setting. We know that we talk about controversial topics frequently and that the CD/FRC diehard community can be extremely unforgiving at times. I would never want to put a student in a position where a flub on-air results in them being ostracized by the community, but at the same time we recognize that many FRC students are more than qualified to speak about the same subjects. |

Re: The F4 Show - Brand new Student based weekly webshow
I, too, enjoyed having the opportunity to co-host on this startup show. The environment provided by a fully student-led talk show is one that is well-suited for FIRST (or even non FIRST!) participants of any level of immersion. We started off with a general topic, and without a real ability to carry on a conversation on said topic for an hour, drifted off into more general FIRST discussion, while responding to queries and statements made in the comments section. I really hope this idea takes off; a students perspective can be interesting, too!

Even after recently jumping from student to mentor, I've seen my views shifted. And I know I'm not the only person to whom this has occurred, which is why I think this show is such an interesting idea. After all, why not hear about the state of the program from the main participants of the program? Topics similar to this week's broadcast are those which any person who has been a part of the program can answer to a variable extent. 1 year, 2 years, 3 years of experience, each student who joins the show will have an informed opinion. Students have a voice. And while mentors are definitely important, there's no doubt in my mind that hearing from students can only help. I look forward to watching the archived version and hopefully I can catch the next broadcast. |

Wow, I did not know Team 420 moved from Texas, to NH and also resurrected itself after its one and only year in 2000.

Re: The F4 Show - Brand new Student based weekly webshow
Are you saying that CD is not a comfortable place for students to voice their opinions? I'd like to hear more about this and how that could be changed. Maybe you could use that as a topic for a future show.
