we had our school host the site for one year and it was total BS. They have to update everything themselves and wouldn't let you do it outside of school. And if you did give them an update, it'd take them 3 months to do it. It was total crap so I decided to do it myself.

First off: There are people that will rout to a Dynamic IP. I know a few people that use it. There is software the pings the host site and it records the current IP and adjusts the pointers within seconds or minutes. If you want to lookinto this do a search for Dynamic IP's and and see what you get.
The bad thing about doing your own hosting or on your schools servers (besides the previosly mentioned BS with IT "profesionals") is ther is not the same Backup and redududnacy for your power and backbone connection. Our town talked about putting a generator in at our school because the local power gets lost if the wind blows in the wrong direction. And I'm not in the back woods either. My Cable connection is usually good for a month or two then will be out for 2-days. Can't count on that one! I uses a company called FeaturePrice and www.featureprice.com they also have a feew affiliates that offer different stuff. For 25/mon, I can host 6 internet sites, with tripple-redundant T3 backbones, Power backup, daily server backups, UNLIMITED Disk Space, UNLIMITED: Email; FTP; X-fer; MySQL; HTTP Streaming (because their connection is fast enough) and a bunch of other stuff. They have plans starting from 5/month if your just starting. Be ware if things are too cheap or free- you may have to deal with ADs or Lots of Downtime or No support. Good luck |

Brinkster.com has pretty decent hosting. It's free and there aren't any ads. The only downside is it's only 30MB of web space.

www.spenix.com is another option to consider. It's not the cheapest out there but your dollar sure goes a long way.

The free-est your going to get would be like $4 per month but most likely $5. |

Help! Our domain name, www.RoboDox.org , expired on us. We can re-register with the old company, but they had donated it to us. I don't think they will again. Where's a good place to register a domain, and how does all this work? I haven't done it before...

Wow. I'm feeling grateful.
Our sponsor we-solve.com hosts our site for free, unlimited space, I can update anytime. When we first started the web MCHS parent brought up the issue of pics and full names, and gave us the school policy on it just as a heads up, but we went ahead and posted names and pics and haven't had any complaints. Our team's now doing scrrf's web and we-solve.com hosts it. Before starting our web, it was hosted by Redondo Union High School Beach net, and the web built and maintained by bnet students - way not up-to-date BeachNet "RUHS is the only high school in the nation with student run ISP. Many schools have students working with IS and networks, but no others are responsible for running an ISP and for managing the district WAN." School District Technology Director Pat Hosken, mentor of Beach Cities Robotics Team 294 Robotics and BeachNET both have alumni who've gone on to successful web design, computer consultant careers. Redondo Union High School was opened in 1905. It is the 3rd largest piece of land in the nation for a high school - @ 54 acres. Lindbergh attended, didn't graduate from here; Smothers Brothers did graduate. A view of the beach. RUHS "Freeth accepted Huntington's offer and arrived in Redondo in 1907, not only introducing surfing to the United States, but most dramatically, becoming the first person to use the surfboard for surf-and-ocean rescue work. This was the initial step in the incredible story of the Southern California Lifeguard Services. From the ancient Hawaiians' love and tremendous respect for the ocean, we have all been blessed.
