Re: [FUN] FRC Top 40 Week 2 and Rant About Replays

I won't opine on whether 5137 should be in the top 25 or 40, but I think I'm in a valid position to comment on 5137 vs 2 other teams from CVR that were ranked above 5137. 5137 clearly outperformed 701 Robovikes (who helped found 1678 and to whom we feel strong allegiance). They had similar designs, yet 5137 outranked 701 and advanced to the SFs over 701's QF. 5817 had an amazing robot for a rookie team, but 5137 played a more well-rounded game and did better at managing its alliances to get to the #3 rank despite playing then No. 1 seed twice and the No.2 once. Their SF match was really about 973 v 1323 (who are ranked above them).

But to go further, notably absent from the ranking are 812 and 3482, who played on par with 973 and 1323 in our scouting data. In fact 812 was 3rd on our scouting data list.

It's too bad that 5137's season is done and they will miss the opportunity for further recognition.

While I agree that 1323 and 973 were both important parts of their alliances, 5137 and 5817 were also equally important. I won't speak for 5137, but in our matches with 1323 we shot 4-5 boulders a match at 90% accuracy, plus a high goal in auto. To say that 1323 and 973 were the only contenders in the semis is false, as evidenced by the ~110% point increase after we repaired and came back in SF2-2.

Why not shorten your list to top 10 world wide in current year + top 10 in your events area each week of those you actually witnessed to get a better accuracy then meld the two lists together for a top 25/40?

A 25 slot list is not ideal because no one really has a clue how to accurately fill it out. I think lists of 10 people can handle better with less "historic" bias.

You might actually get a better top 40 list as swayed by popularity ratings. Experts have bias too.
Just like in real elections. You don't vote you can't complain. So please stop complaining, as your opinion is now invalid.

So its not really a "top 40" is it? When it seems required to "do well consistently" which has nothing to do with this year..so it is a popularity team #'s you remember list that no one can realistically fill out accurately for the current year.

Not 5817's fault no one really knows about them yet nationwide for a poll

Should be "Top 40 historic teams you remember from previous years doing OK this year list"

Yes previous wins deems success but discounts newer rookie teams doing well in current year so take any top 40 with a grain of salt.

BTW congrats 2485 love your designs every season your team received a well deserved engineering award this season, enjoy the worlds.

Boltman, I have played with your team since your inception. And although your kids are very excited about FIRST and without a doubt build good machines. The consistency is not near what those of 254,1114, and more.
Your claim no one knows and you're one of the best teams is insane.
In our 3rd year Code Orange won a division and got on Top 25 and got posted all over Chief. You work hard, you get results.
I'd suggest you sit with your kids, get them to have the best robot in the world and you'll be talked about.

Yeah, I found it kinda funny we got a vote, and we spent a couple of matches in the "tortuga" position at CVR. Goes to show you how making a good looking reveal video can get recognition before you actually compete. Anyhow, we look forward to an improved performance in weeks 4 and 5.

What I think is more telling and you should take more issue with is that West Coast Best Coast, who was doing satire sure but was focusing on California did not highlight your team. If the satirist from your state doesn't notice your team, how do you expect for the general populous to?

challenge accepted....

We love doing this each season of course we'll be back to mix it up again with some of the best teams anywhere on this planet. I'll see you play in OC got an eye on you and to make sure all bots get their earned crossings. Getting my eyes checked today.

Like I said I like to make waves online its part of the fun. I try to be helpful too as payback to the wider community. Its all in good fun.
