Help Needed!!! No Robot Comm, No Code.

Hi,

Tried setting up a new laptop to use for the Driver Station.

Installed all software as per SSLive instructions.

Deploy code and build is successful.

Open Driver Station, No Comm, No Code.

However, Driver Station icon has a blue and yellow shield superimposed on it in bottom right hand corner which I haven't seen before.

I check through "Web based Configuration" and all is good.

Please Help!

Make sure that windows firewall and defender along with any other such softwares (mcafee, norton, etc.) are disabled.

It's a school board laptop that runs ESET Antivirus. could that be the problem? I can't turn it off.

We had to have our school IT guy disable the Symantec suite on our backup notebook before we could use it for much of anything. This is probably your problem.

Can you whitelist certain programs or ports? The ports that are used are listed in the manual.

I think that's Windows telling you that the Driver Station program will need to be run with elevated privileges in order to function properly. Try running it as Administrator and see if the communication works.

The best option is probably to log on with an administrator account instead of a limited user, turn off the antivirus and firewall, and then be very careful about what you click on if you ever connect it to the Internet.

Thanks Alan. I suspected that. Thanks for confirming it. We managed to get the old laptop operational and will try the new one again once our school board IT guy gets back from vacation.

BTW all original issues were being caused by bad programming. Don't really understand why the code would compile and load without any faults though.

Re: Help Needed!!! No Robot Comm, No Code.

The locked down domain-joined school issued laptops are a pain at competition. I highly recommend using a laptop dedicated just to being the driver station, with a fully updated fresh Windows 10 install with no crapware and third party antivirus/antimalware software. The only software installed on the laptop should be the driver station software, and it should not be used for anything besides driving.

There are lots of options for durable, cheap, used laptops under $100 that make excellent driver stations.
