Rookies

I posted these quotes for another thread. Check out how rookies came in and changed the world. North Carolina had some great rookie teams this year. There may be others, but I know GLITCH 5854 is going to Worlds. Who were the best rookie teams in your area?

Re: Rookies

Honestly most all of the rookies in PNW were good, but just looking at Eastern Washington I would say 5920 (VIKotics) who performed really well at both of their district events, and at PNW DCMP. Another team i can personally attest to is 5803 (APEX Robotics) While at their first two event they had some issues they broke out at Philomath and at the DCMP, though not getting past the QF's they are a very strong team.

Re: Rookies

At San Diego, 5805 SMbly Required was the #1 seed. While they didn't win the event, they did get RAS and impressed me (and a whole lot of other people) throughout the whole weekend.

At Orange County, 5817 Uni-Rex was right across from our pit. Their team has the quality of robot and professionalism of presentation that you'd expect of a much older team.

Re: Rookies

For New England, the out-of-the-gate performance of 5813, Morpheus was very exciting to see. I'll bet either they or 6153 will win RAS at NECMP.

Re: Rookies

I think GLITCH's biggest claim to fame might be switching out their whole drivetrain between their first and second events this year. Congrats you guys, that's an impressive amount of work to put in even for veteran teams.

Re: Rookies

This year's rookie class is very impressive. Besides the ones that were mentioned:

5802 Los Stemateros were ranked 4 at Venutra, 3rd alliance captains and finalists with....

5818 Riviera Robotics, whom I understand has some mentor experience from defunct 1717

5895 Peddie School Robotics went out and were the 5th overall selection at their first event, then 5th seed captains and winners at their second.

5897 Apex Robotics (another one? Yup) who were the 4th overall selection and Rookie All Stars at the Western Canada Regional.

6082 Calgary Tech Coalition Ranked 4th at the Western Canada Regional, finishing as captains of the finalist alliance from the 3rd seed.

I'm sure there are many others, those are just the few that came to mind from events I've watched.

5910 is an amazing team, Im glad we got to pick them as a 1st pick on alliance #2. They had the passion, determination and spirit every great team should have

Re: Rookies

5847 is by far the most professional rookie team I have ever seen. They handle themselves extraordinarily well, and the level of professionalism they bring to competition puts to shame many teams that are 10+ years old. Their robot is a prime example of a good design process, conscious of their limitations without limiting themselves too much. Their driver is excellent, and their drive team is a pleasure to work with (their spy language is actually really useful). They have wonderful team spirit, a large and quickly learning scouting team, and a good robot. In their first year, 5847 already stands alongside 3695, 4096, and 4655 as the next generation of Illinois powerhouse teams.

Other notable rookies:
5822: a pretty cool low goal auto, RAS at Central Illinois, and a nice drive team. Sadly, I know little else about them. Oh, and their mascot costume is identical to the one at my high school, so that's cool.
5934: they barely missed out on a much-deserved spot in elims at Midwest. Their students are dedicated and knowledgeable, and they show immense potential.
