Imaging a 4 slot CRIO...

We are still using our 2014 robot for demos (hey, who doesn't like a robot that shoots big soft exercise balls?). We have a 4 slot cRIO in there.

It's time to *dumb* down the code for demo use, and I'm putting together a test system with another cRIO....

I heard at world's that a new vesion of the software was available for cRIO to make it work with the 2015+ DS. Do we get this with the 2015 Imaging Tool, or something else, or not possible?

I know it's possible to get the 2015/2016 DS to speak the old protocol (though it seems that some of the buttons get mapped differently than with a 2014 DS)l, but trying to understand all the possibilities...

Uh... I only keep updated with the new control system for CSA duties but I've never, ever heard of something like that.

Our 2014 bot connects to the newest driver station through the DS's 2014 protocol feature. Works like it did two years ago.

The latest FRC LabVIEW has backwards compatibility to 4-slot cRIO's.
Just create a new project and choose "Arcade Drive Robot - cRIO"

The cRIO needs imaging with the proper corresponding image.
From the LabVIEW Getting Started screen go to Utilities and cRIO Imaging Tool 2016

The latest FRC Java implementation is not backwards compatible.
You'd need to use a preserved copy of the 2014 FRC Java.

C++ is possible but would take some porting effort on your part.

If I image with the 2016 Imaging Tool, will it be talking the newer protocol? Can I use the 2014 Java with it?

To use the 2014 Java will require the matching 2014 image.
Probably what it already has on it, as well as the 2014 Java runtime.
It isn't compatible with the newer communications protocol, just use the 2014 option in the DS, or the 2014 Driver Station app.
