VersaFrame Examples

Hello teams! I have a request to make. I'm going to be meeting with my team mentors soon and I am wanting them to start purchasing (and using) more Vex and specifically VersaFrame components. We've used miscellaneous VexPro products before, but I want us to start utilising the VersaFrame product line for our drivetrains and subassemblies. I would be very interested in seeing pictures of what teams have done so far with VersaFrame. Whether that's finished robots, drivetrains, small assemblies, prototypes, or even just single parts, I'd like to see as many examples of VersaFrame products being used as possible.

Also, this is entirely up to you, but quick descriptions and your experience with the VersaFrame product line would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!

Re: VersaFrame Examples

Our 2015 bot used a lot of both the 2x1 and 1x1 versaframe. I'll try and find a few good pictures.

Most of the arm / claw on 2791's 2014 robot was built out of VersaFrame: https://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/photos/39732

If you check the link in my signature there should be a 2014 build season photo gallery with more examples.

Re: VersaFrame Examples

5254 builds our robots out of almost exclusively VersaFrame. Our team has very few precision manufacturing resources so our robots are built with basically a chop saw, drill press and hand tools. We use the system for both prototyping and our final designs. Our rookie year we had a low goal only robot with a 6 wheel shifting WCD that was made possible by VersaFrame and the 3 CIM Ball Shifters.

If you want to see examples of how we use the system you can look at our 2016 Engineering Notebook (Or if you want more memes...)

Re: VersaFrame Examples

We've been building robots with VEXpro since 2014. Here are some pictures of our last three robots and what we've been able to make with VEXpro. We've built all of these robots with only a band saw, drill press, belt sander, arbor press, hydraulic press, and hand-held power tools. The fact that we don't have access to a CNC or manual mill makes VEXpro such a great build system for us.

Re: VersaFrame Examples

Here are a couple renders of our 2014 robot which utilized a lot of versa tube.

The drive chassis was made of .040" 1x1 versa tube, while the catapult we had was mainly constructed of .100" 2x1 versa tube.

Let me know if you have any questions about anything we did or just dealing with versa tube in general.

Re: VersaFrame Examples

We used the VersaFrame members and bearing block assemblies to build our suspension system this year, and it worked surprisingly well. This was our first year using these parts. Despite the complicated drivetrain layout, it was the easiest to maintain drivetrain we'd ever made and survived very well. We'll probably be using these parts on whatever drivetrains we make in the future, it's just so easy and bulletproof. And after that complicated drivetrain, a 6wd would be a breeze!

Here's a small gallery showing the prototype construction, as well as pics of the final frame and final assembly. We manufactured our own gussets to hold the frame members together.

This robot is amazing to watch. So simple and effective! And from such a young team too.
