Safety, Safety, Safety (and the Safety Animation Award)

Everyone involved in FIRST should be making safety a top priority. As you start to gear up for the season, please take a look around your build area to check for safety hazards, make sure you are stocked up on personal protective equipment (PPE), and make sure everyone knows how to use it. Keep yourselves safe, and help others be safe as well. We’ve said this before, but it’s still true: Nothing you are doing in FIRST is worth getting injured over!

You can find the FRC Safety Page here. On that page you will find lots of useful and interesting stuff, including a link to the 2016 Safety Manual. The 2016 Safety Manual is in the process of being updated for 2017, but there are no major changes, so the current manual is still a great safety guide.

Also on this page you will find the details of the 2017 Safety Animation Award sponsored by UL! The theme this year is Quest for a Safer World and yes, we’re looking for lots of great steampunk goodness. New this year: You will be allowed to incorporate live action elements into your animation! Check out the safety page for full details, and let’s see you put all your creativity in the service of a very worthy cause! Deadline for submission is December 1, 2016, 3:00 PM ET

2nd Regional Event Registration

Don’t forget 2nd Regional Event Registration starts at Noon Eastern Time tomorrow, that’s October 20th!

Remember this is for Regional teams. District teams already had their fun last week. Don’t know if you are a District or Regional team? Check here.

What could possibly be better than playing FIRST STEAMWORKS once? You know it – playing it twice. Oh yeah.

My team has never competed in more than one event and I have a question for those of you with this experience.

We're more confident than ever that our budget will allow a second competition, but we won't be sure for months. Is it common practice to register for a second event not knowing if you'll actually be able to make it happen?

I figure we can always back out before the payment is due, but I don't want to take someone's spot if I don't know we'll be there.

You can always drop an event before the payment deadline. Which is usually in January for second events. Double check that though.

However, once you've paid you'll have a hard time trying to get a refund. So go ahead and register, just fundraise like crazy between now and January.

When does Regional registration open up for District teams? Couldn't find anything on FIRST Inspires.

It opened for District teams last week, at 12:00 Noon EDT on October 13th. I believe it is temporarily closed to district teams this morning, to lessen the load on the system for the regional teams registering. I believe it is expected to re-open to district teams later today, if I recall.

I think he meant when district teams can register for regionals, Which I believe is 11/03/16 because that is when unrestricted event registration starts.

Quick question on what date can we sign up for CMP waitlist? according to original Blog it was also today(OCT. 20). Is that still correct ? Thanks!!
