California is naming DENIM the state fabric as of Jan 1 2017

Dean Kamen loves denim.

The newest regional for California is in San Francisco.

San Francisco is home to Levi Strauss & Co., the original denim jeans company.

A "potential" game hint in the DLC had a coded "the game is a foot" message. As well as "liftoff". And the original "prepare to take flight."

30 years ago a video game called California Games was released for Commodore 64 (look it up kids), featuring... FOOT BAG! (aka hacky sack)

This is clear proof that we'll need to hit birds out of the air with bean bags. "SteamWorks" was just there to mislead us.

I don't argue that denim is important, but I don't think it's the key. Flight is the key, or else it wouldn't be mentioned so often.

So, what is a famous California thing containing flight?

Top Gun. It's a movie about planes. Planes lift off and take flight.

Further, the movie contains a beach volleyball scene where everyone playing is wearing...

Denim jeans.

And the film features original songs by Kenny Loggins, the singer of classics like Danger Zone, I'm Alright, Playing with the Boys, and...

Footloose. This means only one thing.

Beach volleyball game confirmed. With a plane-related endgame and a Kenny Loggins playlist required at all FRC events in 2017.

The game is a foot

After suffering about a year's worth of HS gym volleyball (once upon a time in the distant past), I do know volleyball isn't a game known for using your feet.

I'm still trying to work in a (American) football game, which fits better with most of the clues. This theme would play nicely in with our team's next-town-over neighbors at Gillette Stadium.

This is clear proof that we'll need to hit birds out of the air with bean bags

This does sound like an interesting game.

Please save me. I'm reffing 4 events and CMP this year (likely) and really, there's a limit to how much "Danger Zone" one can take before becoming certifiably insane. And you don't want insane refs.

There's also a limit to how many events you can ref in one year before becoming certifiably insane. You're pretty close to it...

(I did the 4-events+CMP last year, except I didn't ref CMP. Not going to do that again if I can help it...)

You know what they say about sand. It's course rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.

Beyond that joke, it'd be a great engineering challenge to sand-proof your robot.
