FIRST 2012

As advanced as FIRST is in 2002, how do you think FIRST will be run, played and set up ten years from now? Will we have super advanced cyborgs participating in 2 on 2 alliances, or will we finally see a water-based game? You decide.

I think it will be the robots running the humans around the course like rats in a maze... in a fight to the death while the evil robot overlords laugh about mankind's innate stupidity while a small rebel human force breach the ranks of the contenders intent on overcoming the mighty machines they had once created... sigh... I've got to stop watching the sci-fi channel so much, either that or stop eating pickles so late at night.

Well, considering their current run, in 2012 we'll be playing on a grey rectangular field with an objective to pick up balls.
However, Dean Kamen will finally capitulate to pressure and allow contraband weaponry on the robots.
Boy, I hope I'm not right about the first part.

There won't be a FIRST in 2012.

MOE will create a massive clapper that will produce so loud of a clapping sound that it will rupture the blood vessels in the brains of everyone at nationals, killing them instantly.

That, and Team 71 will begin to devour FIRST Teams until it has become FIRST itself.

ok ok, back to the subject. I think the robots will have to perform in a tank of water after woodie flowers takes over the program.

The program will include scheduled daily technology sessions 3 times a day. We will learn how to build high power artillery and about the terrible ways of actors. Actors will be given special tracking units.

Anyone who uses the word "set screw" will detained, and then used as playing field "carpet."

Of course, robot cleats and file cards will be heavily encouraged

I think it will be the same, only with more advanced computers, and maybe easier construction.

i mean, look at the trends:

1) knowledge of programming among kids is increasing

2) knowledge of building stuff with welders, etc. is decreasing

so . . .FIRST will follow those trends and we will have a more computer oriented 2012 match . . . .

maybe ENTIRELY computer controlled with no driver, hit the on button and let it run. that would be awesome.

I want a FIRST where individuals and teams can submit robots for differnt tasks. Mini-FIRST, regular FIRST. Also, a tred towards an out of the box field is good, where options are openended. Bots can rase up and drop down. Wheels will be banned.
