Why do we miss people?
for anyone out there who has taken phsycology or just knows what they are talking about. Why do we miss people? Why does being away from someone make us hurt, even if we know we will see them again. Then once we see them again we are fine. I am baffled by the whole affair, can anyone help?

Well if you are talking about long distance relationships, I can help you out there. My boyfriend and I live kinda far away. He goes to College in Milwaukee, and I live in Oconomowoc, that is about 30 minutes away. He usually comes to visit me every weekend....which makes me so happy. The bad thing though is he lives in Appleton which is about 2 hours from Oconomowoc. He is there now for Christmas Vacation. We can't be together on Christmas, but we get to be together for New Years. Ok, so the reason we miss the person so much even though we know we will see them again is that they are not with us all the time, and we want them to be with us all the time. It is hard to think that you can't just get up and go see them because they are far away. I think that is why i miss him so much is because i can't just drop what I am doing and go and see him. Then when I see him it is all better because he is here, and that is what I want. I don't know if that made any sense, but that is how I feel.

Long distance relationships are so hard. First, because your significant other lives so far away. Second, because you miss them so much! My boyfriend lives allllllllllllllll the way in Kokomo, IN ... which is 6-7 hours away from Appleton (depending how fast you drive ...) It's hard, because we only get to see each other once every two or three months. He's coming up to Appleton Dec. 26 - Jan. 1 though, so that will be nice
![]() As far as why we miss people? Because we care for them ... we want to be there for them when they are down, and share the times that they are happy with them. At least that's what I figure. - Katie Katie, are you going to be up here for New Years? We should have a party if you are I'll start working on that ... ![]() |

For a busy girl in this day in time long-distance is the only way to go
I don't have time to spent every evening or whatever with a boyfriend. Multi-tasking on the other hand is the way to do it. I can do my homework while keeping my heart in check. A perfect balance. Right now just working on keeping my heart in check, guys are way too much work ![]() |

The reason why we miss people is really not all that deep. It's an attachment to activities and actions. you get the same feeling of missing a significant other as you would a freind who moves. It has to do with your actions then there are no actions. For example, if you called you grandmother everyday for 1 week, same time everyday and talked to her for 1 hour, then on the 8th day you didn't call her for that hour you would wander around trying to figure out what to do. It's an emotional attachment to contact. To be honest it's because you get bored, that's why when you do other things to "keep your mind occupied" you don't realize that you miss that person until you stop doing things, ie you get bored. That wasn't meant to sound negative or mean, but that's just life sometimes...
