A few years ago I thought I'd like to have "the
car of my dreams," but then I drove one. The
car was a '67 Coronet R/T. The one I drove was not a prime specimen, nor was it equipped the way I'd prefer, but the bottom line is that I have become very spoiled by the perfection and refinement of today's cars, import and domestic.
Regarding the "rough" 67 Coronet I drove, it was fast and would "light up" the tires with ease as is to be expected for a 3500 pound
car with a 440CID engine. Beyond that, it was not much fun. The clutch was very stiff and the shifter was stiff and had very long throws. Of course, 60's Mopars are much better with an automatic, but that wouldn't fix the poor handling and bad brakes compared to today's cars.
I understand some people's liking the sensory stimulation of 60's and 70's muscle cars, but for people around my age I know who have them, their reason is more a nostalgia thing. They now have the
car they fantasized about driving but couldn't afford when they were kids or young adults.
