Previous Years
Hey, we in 694 were wondering if there was anyplace we could get descriptions of each years game since 1992, as well as the winning team and their robot with a description/picture. Reason is that somebody on the team (me) got this wackey idea to find patterns in which designs/strategies win and then use that data to create an ultimate robot! (yeah, im just ranting at this point, but really if anyone can help we'd appreciate it)

Uhm. You should know this years game. If not, I'm worried.
For the newbs that don't know... '02 game: You had 3 big goals in the center playing field with soccer balls along both sides and in the player station. Due to memory lapse, my scoring may be incorrect. There were 5 zones: Blue Home, Red Scoring, Neutral, Blue Scoring, Red Home. (Those were each equal sections of the floor) If you got a goal in your scoring zone, the goal was worth 10 points and each ball was 1 point. You also got 10 points for ANY robot in your home zone. Fun stuff like that. '01 game: There were x goals that year. (I forget how many...I never went to a competition that year) There were two types of balls...small balls and big balls. (Or was that the year there were yellow&black balls...I think that was '00) Anyways, the four teams WORKED TOGETHER to score as many points as possible by getting the most balls in the goals (and in the right zone?) The team with the corresponding big ball on top of a goal got a multiplier (I think?) The scoring wasn't too great that year...and the comp's didn't sound very competitive. There was also a teeter in the center that if you could balance goals on, you got many points or a multiplier. Gahh...stupid scoring. There was also something if you hit that emergency stop button early...like a point for each second early you finished...(*shrug*) '00 game: (my first year) There were two large, stationary hoppers in the center of the field seperated by a ramp (like this years, but much smaller and carpet-covered) with a bar above the ramp. The hoppers were like 5 or 6 feet in the air. You had yellow and black balls in the field and in the player station. You got 1 point for each yellow ball in the hopper and 10 for each black ball. You got points for having your entire on the ramp; you also got points for having your robot holding itself off the ground by clamping onto the bar above the ramp. '99 game: (chuck pie was second in nats) I don't know too much about this game. It involved huge pucks...which were kinda like last years goals, minus the PVC pipe and they were a bit shorter and carpet covered. To score points, you picked up 'floppies' which were round foam disc-type donut thingies. (very interesting things ) and put them on your robot then tried to raise them in the air. You could gain additional points by lifting yourself onto the puck, I believe.'98 game: Uhm. All I know is that there were REALLY big balls. '97 game: Innertubes? Heh. Everything else was before our entire team's time. (Feel free to ignore anything I say...for I'm stupid and can't remember anything )Last edited by evulish : 11-01-2003 at 21:27. |

Well, I guess I should do research before I post. Or I could ignore that and say that NASA has an archive for webcasts. If you don't find anything helpful in there, though, it's not my fault.

01: Goals: There were 2 goals, 7ft tall, octogonal, and about 4' wide across. Balls: There were 2 types of balls. 4 big balls, and 20 smaller balls. The big balls had about an 5' diameter and the smaller balls had about 20" diameter. Teams: 4 v 0, everyone was an alliance to eachother, working towards a common goal of points. Multipliers: Each team had a 'clock-stopper' when a team pressed there stopper, power to their bot would be turned off. when all 4 teams have pressed their stopper match time would be stopped. 0:00-0:30 = 1x 0:31-1:00 = 2x 1:01-1:30 = 3x 1:31-2:00 = 4x Also, in the center of the field a teeter-totter bridge seperated the drivers side from the ball side. 1 Goal was placed in front of the drivers stations, a second was placed at the same point on the other side of the field. Balls were against the back wall. Balancing goals on the bridge was an additional multiplier to the time. 1 Goal = 2x 2 Goal = 4x Teams got their points: small balls = 1pt per ball in goal big balls = 10 pts per ball on TOP of goal (doesn't fit in) robot score = 10 points for bot that ends on the oppisite side of the field. The highest score seen I believe was 720pts. 10 balls + 1 big ball + 4 bots in end zone x 4x (2 goals) x 3x (1:05 remaining) (10 + 10 + 40) x 4 x 3 = 720 pts ---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- For the most part he was right on the '00 game with minor differences. Black balls were worth 5pts, no points for ramp, 10 for hanging on bar, and the goals were 6' high |
