Well, all you Cali kids out there, the big debate at my school involves the hypothetical that California withdraws from the Union. I was wondering what people (preferably people who don't go to a very liberal school in Venice) think.
We think that for succession to work, California would have to carry oregon, washington, alaska, hawaii, nevada, and arizona to be successful. Actually, popular sentiment around our school is that Bush would be glad to see us go, as it would give him and the republicans a VERY solid grip on the US government. Interestingly enough, California (though currently in an economic slump) is rated as the 5th largest economy in the world, if it were a country, just above france. If france can be a country, why can't we?!? |

Leave the union, less welfare stress on the rest of us, you lazy bums! lol, but seriously, how long do you think you would last. The US would ban trade with you, and i doubt many countries would trade with you. We would probably launch a war to take you back, its a pointless endeavor, unless all of the FIRST states succeed, then we could form the United FIRST Nation of Engineering. That would rock!

Um the U.S. pacific fleet is stationed in Califorinia along with a vital number of military bases supporting Pacific operations (assuming they haven't been emptied of personnel thanks to this whole Iraq issue)....war, very long and bloody. Only Texas may succeed from the union, its intheir state constitution I believe.

Nope.
With a Democratically-controlled government, we need a federal govt. to keep the state in check. SEE: Davis is a moron, budget crisis |

I moved to Arizona in 1994 and bought beach front property.
California does not need to leave the union. Just wait for the "big one" and you will be your own island nation. Long live swaying palms and "uke" music. Ken Loyd Team 64 |

California cannot even provide itself with enough water fit for consumption without mooching off every neighboring state.

How about splitting the state into Northern and Southern California? I vote for that...then the evilness of the northern lingo won't infiltrate down here

Well, in my ongoing struggle to get kristina to come to terms with the fact that us Nor caler's will continue to say "Hella" no mater what, I realized that we really do talk different than everyone else, even other californians. Anyone know why this is?
