It was a very spirited event. We gave away thousands of earplugs (all we brought). They were needed around the noisemaker bleacher containing: WAR Dept, RobbeXtreme, and of course MOE with spirit sticks. Also T Rex had drums in the same spot. We also had the greatest Pit Neighbors. As always, Royal Assault built a beautiful bot that I couldnt stop talking about. The Brazilian Pioneers were a lot of fun. I wish I wasnt working in the pit during the soccer game between our two teams. The Thunder Herd was the first bot i got to inspect. Thanks for not being too tough on a rookie inspector. Thank you to the Arial Tornados for the Sponge Bob doll. You had the prettiest bot there. The MechTechs were fun to watch as they did a major overhaul to their bot. Usually i dont like to see a bot remove its stacker but it had to be done. I like the low friction plastic pieces u used instead of casters. Thanks to all the teams for making it a great regional. See many of u in Houston. Last edited by The Lucas : 29-03-2003 at 23:58. |

Congrats to all Philly Teams
This was the fourth Philly Regional I have attended, and by far it was the most competetive. I have never attended any regional (7 total) where the final eight alliances were so strong and so evenly matched. The top 4 alliances were eliminated by the bottom 4, yet the quality of gameplay never diminished. There were no weaknesses in any of these alliances, and all teams in the playoffs deserve a loud CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
It's interesting to see how all the local teams in this regional are improving and developing together. These past few years as we've met at one or two regionals, and also at the many off-season competitions in this area, a very strong core of good teams have developed, and it showed these past three days. Here's looking forward to Nationals. Good Luck to all the teams making the trip, and look for more excitement as we "Stack Attack" during the upcoming off-season. |

This post doesn't apply to Philly.....
I was reading this post and you guys have all mentioned that you are having problems with your drill motors falling apart. You guys aren't the only ones with this problem and the only soultion that Delphi ELITE has come up with it to rebuild the drill motors. Yes, you guys all love taking things apart so what are ya'll waiting for. I don't know exactly what they took out and put back in but I can find out if you would like to know?!? I'm glad that there was so much excitment in Philly, just sad I missed it being in Canada all weekend!!

Indeed, that happened to us.
We eventually welded several parts of the gearbox together, and reworked the motor mounts. Now we have no problems whatsoever (before the whole motor would rotate, spitting out chunks of plastic and metal!). |

I hope that I don't hear anything else about the safety glasses issue because it is so simple it is stupid. You wear them when working in machine shops at your schools or businesses, when using tools, and when you are buiding the robot durring the build period... why wouldn't you wear then when working on the robot at a competition? Even if you are not working on YOUR robot... the people near you are. Heck... FIRST has a seperate heading in the manual about it. "12.1 Safety Glasses - They do no good on foreheads." also... under "16.10 Courtesies and Rules" it most definately states that ALL teams ARE REQUIRED to WEAR *AND* PROVIDE safety glasses for both themselves AND their guests. And ALL members and onlooks MUST wear them in the Pits. The Safety Glasses they decided to lend on Friday were for VIP's and non-team related visitors so they could see the robots... and they were to be returned... sadly i do not believe many were. That is why they were not lending them on Saturday. And.... If everyone just wore their safety glasses in the pits we (the volunteers) wouldn't have had to be evil about it. -------------------------- On a less evil note: I do agree about the Bosch Motors and Gearboxes... The large pile of Broken/Damaged Parts by the end of Saturday was astounding. We had a pretty cool Pyramid of Bosch motors going. Not as much Field lint as Annapolis though. The Competition in Philly was amazing like usual. Carol, Louisa, and the Whole crew of FIRST people, Drexel people, and the other Volunteers deserve a great round of applause for getting everything set-up, run, and broken down. |

I do believe at least half of those are ours.
We also have the distinction of being the only team to need a replacement Chipphua at the Philly Comp. ![]() |

That i do recall....
You had the only chipphua I had to replace during my spare parts stints at two regionals... and then the motor was fine... i think you just drilled a hole that was a LITTLE big for the shaft to handle. |

On a side note- the HDPE looked pretty messed up at the end of the day, but teams 87 and 1218 seemed to have no problem latching on in the final half of the playoffs.. edit- In the very bottom of this picture under the large collection of nuts you can see what i was talking about- anyone recognize it? There were at least 200 of those on the carpet http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/pi...gle&picid=4448 Last edited by OneAngryDaisy : 30-03-2003 at 16:05. |

Philadelphia Regional
Hi All,
I would like to thank teams 102 and 316 for being great alliance partners during the finals at Philly. You are both high quality teams and unfortunately we ran into some bad luck during the quarterfinals. Also, I want to congratulate the winning alliance (teams 1218, 204, 486) as well as 341 for winning the chairman's award - your team deserved it. A special thanks goes out to team 383, the Brazilian Machine, for being so appreciative of me and another team 103 member singing their national anthem. We were so afraid that we would pronounce something wrong, but your hugs and thanks afterward made all of the preparation worth it. Finally, all of team 103 would like to say thanks to the teams who attended the Philadelphia regional for making this an event to remember! |
