We have side plates that are made of a metal (the name of the metal escapes my memory, but it's very thin) that can be painted with standard household paint. (I'm sure someone will correct me saying what the material is or that all metal is like that, but i'm doing this from memory -- so get over it!) We will prolly then use a stencil of our team number and spray paint it on as it gets packed up at 4:30 Feb. 18th.

Vinyl letters are really one of the best ways to go. You can do multi color and fancy designs quite easily and its a lot cleaner then paints. Even your school doesn't have a vinyl cutter in the school you should be able to find a place nearby. If not checkout www.vinylguy.com we've worked through this company before and they will do a really nice job for you. They can also do graphics as well as text.

Since this year involves so much pushing around and possibly getting hit by bins, it's probable that most teams will have lexan shielding on their robot. Vinyl appliques work perfectly on them and can be ordered in many different styles.

last year we got these big rectangular stickers that we put on each side, with our team # (555) and sponsors

stickers

The Silver Scorpion last year was decorated with 8 1/2 x 11 full sheet Avery labels printed in my Inkjet printer.

The numbering, label art and design are set up on a ppt slide and then we print the whole slide as a label.

As some will recall, the SS grabbed two goals last season and more or less pulled them in along the sides of the machine. As a result the labels took a beating. So we printed off dozens of them in different colors and styles and replaced the artwork as needed.

BTW- we had a changing color scheme for the Scorpion.

In the seeding rounds we had orange lettering on a silver brushed metal background. In the later rounds we moved to orange on brushed copper or bronze. In the elimination rounds the colros went to blue lettering on gold.

At Brunswick Eruption, after making a formal agreement with John Larock of the the MOE team. we decorated the SS with stickers with the trademark Moe-stick green and black striping. BTW- it was the SS moestick colors that eventually won the event by beating the Moehawk in the finals.

Remember that you can have the vinyl stickers printed as mirror images of the true graphic and stick them to the inside of polycarbonate sides This will protect them from damage and is easier than making many replacements.

We know this because last season we had laminated paper sides that got wrecked in every single match.

Another option that we're pursuing is printing up stickers that are similar to what colleges sell for car windows. They work quite like vinyl on polycarbonate might, but they can be full color, complex graphics because they don't require complex cutting.

Finally, remember that your team number needs to on all four sides of your robot this season (does that effectively make 857's robot from last season illegal? ) . . . that's something of a nuisance to deal with, but not insurmountable.
