Washed out textures

For the playing field, I have a carpet texture that is set to very near black (the red level in the red area is 64), but when it renders, it comes up as though the red level was 255. The rest of the scene comes up fine; its just the one section that gets brightened in the extreme. Any ideas?

if you posted the file it would be easier to figure out...but you may want to check out these idea. Fisrt...the self-illumination could be way up...you may want to find that...(it's in the material editor) or check your lights. Some times they have an include-exclude function that could only be targeting that area of the carpet. If all else fails...create a new material...using the same parameters (colors and maps) and material it to that part of the field.

if that doesn't work...post the file here and I'll check it out. I seemed to remember having this porblem three years ago but I can't remember how I solved it exactly.

I hadn't thought of starting the material again from scratch . . . have to do that when I have the time to wait for the file to load.
