Question Catapults anyone?

how does everyone feel about tossing boxs accross the field? with our current design we have both CIM motors running our arm and we could toss multiple boxes accross the field at a time. my biggest concern is damaging other robots. Do you think it is a valid concern?
we are fully running now... i attached a pic taken last week..take a look and tell me what you think.. not bad for a rookie??

I would say so, just the arm flying forward might be construed as an endangerment. I would run it by first before it is really too late. It look awesome though, but I would be worried.

How much air to you get?

I LOVE your bot. Very simple very elegant.

How much air can you get when you toss the containers?

Specifically, how high do the containers get at the peak?

I ask this, because to my knowledge, FIRST has not promised a minimum ceiling height at various venues. Are you in danger of hitting the ceiling at some venues?

Do tell...

Joe J.

well... the hieght of the toss depends on the point of release... we plan on using a magnetic limit switch to make the gripper release the box at a certain point .... we will have to play with it a littlebit to get it just high enough to clear the ramp plus a tall robot....the arm has a ton of umph..with both cim motors geared down twice. If we are not careful we could send them smashing into the opposite wall... could be kinda fun if you are throwing them at your opponent drivers... haha

i like it but.... read the rules
its not clear too me but if you use springs, the only thing you can use is the latex tubing. i dont know if this excludes pneumatics and motors. it would suck if you couldnt use that arm.

Very nice robot but easy on useing the rookie tag. You are maybe a rookie by number but you have some experience. You also look like an add for 80/20.

Very nice hope you guys do well.

Cool

Looks very cool, it will be very interesting to watch your robot toss totes across the field.

Woohoo! 2001 TechnoKat robot in the background!

We've said it many times. The rule says IF you're using some kind of elastic energy as the actual release mechanism. It says nothing against throwing it with a motor. And remember, folks, the best way to aim your projectiles is to set up different switches for different angles of launch. Remember your basic physics.

Is it done?

I see the compressor, so there must be more.

The revolving light on yours is kind of hidden. It looks like it is only visible from 180 degress. There are some problems with that, so if you aren't set I suggest moving it to a more visible area.

Nice treads. Is your robot going to be under 14" tall? I can't really tell from the picture.

well guys the robot will be under 14 inches to go under the bar.. but we have been having some problems with the arm turret.... the kinda torque needed to throw boxes just cant be done by what we have designed now... we just don't have the power.. the arm will just be used to stack boxes. ... chuckenum is kinda out...
