Well. You see I DO have the codec (DivX 5.0.3 and its still not running. Only shows the first frame and plays sound.

Very very strange.

Oh well. Im in Mexico right now so sorry if my answers are a bit delayed (finding time to post :-))

Thanks,

Dave

Exclamation 610 Animation & Website

Yes, 610's site is currently down. Our team's web server is locked away in our project room. This room is on the same circuit as the science lab across the hall, and therefore whenever somebody hits the power shutoff switch in this lab our web server is inadvertently turned off.

Check back sometime after the 24th, when we get back from March Break (yes, we get 2 weeks).

yeah, we are gonna be judged at the canadian regional. Roboblue, how did you guys do at st. Louis? Not to brag or be cocky or anything, but won 2nd place! We're hoping to win 1st at one of the other regionals, but we have no idea who we're competing against, does anyone know who won 1st or 3rd at st. Louis? And I'm downloading your animation right now, and from the screenshots it looks like you are going to be one of our biggest competitors. But I really want to know who got 1st or 3rd at st. Louis.

[edit] I just watched it, your is pretty cool! But how did you get around the copyright issue? did you get permission from the author or something?

I'm pretty sure that autodesk screwed up our animation because we submitted it in Divx (because no where did it specificly state that we HAVE to use the codecs they suggested). Probably what was show of our animation was just the title screen and nothing else (that's what happens when you have an older version of divx). Oh well, I guess we'll have to complain at the regional.

Oh, and could u post yours, so we can get a glimps at the competition?

This is the first regional we are entering...ever, Chris so we have no clue.

I would really like to see yours.

The ONLY copyright issue with our video is the music. From what our team read, you dont need permission if you are only using a small portion of the track and if its for a non profit project then it could be used free.

So we shouldnt have a problem with the Basement Jaxx (Wheres your head?) sound track.

Please post a link to your animation.

sorry

we are in the process of putting our animation on our web site. If you havent already seen the pics in the animation image gallery then check those out, although we never used the stadium. Maybe I'll upload a couple stills to the image gallery as well sometime later today.

[edit]And dude, lots of teams got busted this year for using copyrighted music, did you get a phone call?(see the other thread about this)

Well I wouldn't have been able to download it anyways, as I'm on vacation in the Mayan Riviera (Mexico).

Could you post some better screens, those are ok but I would like to see more. When do you think you can have the ENTIRE animation up? I will be home in 3 days so I can download it then.

How long did it take you guys to complete the entire video? From modelling to animation??

We were REAL short on time. lol we had to ship it by same day delivery because it wasn't going to make it. We literally put the entire video together (intro and credits) 15 minutes before the FedEx guy arrived. We had soooooo many comp problems with the rendering. A piston on the robotic arm kept on corrupting the file. We reanimated the laser cutting sequence 4 times!! Then realized it was the piston and removed it. Too bad it looked better.

Anyways thanks,

David

This is not related to the animation competitiion at Canada, but Team 639 will be bringing a 500lb load tester for teams to use... hopefully our pit area will be big enough to hold it... approximately 40" x 60".

the way our web team works is....you ask if you can upload something....and they'll think about it. We're preparing for midwest right now, and you'll get to see it the canadian regional. We really wanted to upload it and will do so after we get back from midwest. Sorry it couldn't be up...but when you see it at the canadian regional let me know what you think.

and we started back in june, but scrapped that idea (we would fly through a city) then we started on our real idea in novemeber, and didn't stop until then moment it was shipped.

Dude, shut up, you know its not for that reason. At least dont lie about it. Its not cool to bash another part of our team like that when there is no reason to. Actually we dont want to upload it b/c we dont want people to see it too many times and overanalyze it. Which is David's(TEAM_74) Idea.

I was worried about over-analyzing also but if you want to see what other people have you have to be prepared to show what you have or else no one will give it up.

Who cares about over-analyzing anyways, the judges are the ones who are voting on it not the students.

P.S. Competition in 3 days ;-) Good luck all!

umm.....It IS the students...maybe not in the national competition, but still, we want to take home as many regional trophies as we can. And you can ask TEAM_74 about the over analyzing bit, I really dunno about it.

Actually....they DO have the animation....but they haven't done anything with it. And our web team still hasn't made any updates on the web page.

And yes we didn't want to have it over-analyzed but enough people have seen it anyways so it doesn't matter anymore, right now we don't really have the time, so I think that we'll just put it on image station or something. And the over-analyzing was so that we could keep it kinda a surprise until the regionals.

And forgive Chris's comments....he made this post without knowing anything that I knew.

*ahem* I told you to vote because no one on the team had a clue about most of the sites. I stayed up Tuesday night realizing that there was a website competition and spent a couple hours looking through the sites. Good job on yours, 1049! Although you and [another team] were tied due to the fact you had an intro video
