Thats nothing
For next year our mentor, is requiring us do at least 100 hours of community FIRST service, whatever that is and he wants us to do it for every year. I believe it has something to do with our chairman's award thingy but I don't know. We are teaching a LEGO course at our school, in the summer and most kids are going to try to get 75 hours but 100 hours seemed a lot until I found out that some people in high school get around 200 so some of my teammates and I have made a goal of 360 hours of FIRST community service by the first competition we go to probably around mid March.

community service hours
Our school requires 40 hours of comunity service to graduate. We get hours for the time we spend at Motorola working on the robot (I believe they classify it as an enternship
) So from robotics the last two years I have well over the required amount.![]() |

Re: Community Service
Back when I was in High School. Community Service was not required to graduate and it was even considered something of a weird thing.
Personally I was involved with the Boy Scouts and attained my Eagle Scout. But I am glad to see that students are getting more involved with community service. I know that this year our team took the students on several Habbitat for Humanity projects and we held a discussion on the importance of giving back. I think this was an excellent discussion and will help groom the students to give back in the future. ![]() Just my 2 cents.... JN |

I just have to chime in on this one real quickly. When I was in high school, the portion of the school I was in was required to do 90 hours of community service. Here were the two catches:
1. 90 hours may be completed only after entering the 11th grade. 2. 90 hours must be completed at a location related to animal studies or biological sciences. (i.e., hospitals, vets, natural history museum's bat exhibit, etc.) Zoo Magnet Alumna, indieFan |

my school requires none... But you do have to complete some thing called a senior project. Basiclly you have to do something outstanding for it. Something considered had for you. Or above and beyond. People still et around it i think though....

Hmm...I consider FIRST more of an extra-carricular activity, myself. I do so much other stuff, though, that I am able to use those for my community service hours. Being an advisor for a FIRST Lego League team, however, I considered community service. That was an awesome experience

I think you could count it as community service only if it was with lego league. Besides that its just a school activity.
