The Wrath of Mildread II!
S.W.A.T.
Team 771 Robot Name: Mildread II Pros: Differential Steering, Direct Drive (2 wheel drive), two casters located at back for tight turns (spins on a dime!), two side flaps (17" each, pneumatically driven for a total wingspan of 60"), one top flap pneumatically driven (at max. extension is 48" tall), autonomous mode: dead-reckoning programs for various situations (reliable and work well - will be tweaked on Thursday), all components are enclosed by an aluminum frame making a solid and strong shield against other robots, fits underneath the bar, 122 lbs, doesn't tip over, speedy, can take out 4/6 stacks of boxes at top of ramp, top flap angled slightly forward to ensure that stack will topple. The robot is also extremely reliable, not having any parts break or fail during the Canadian Regional. Human Players: Beyond our robot, the group on the playing field is also well organized, consisting of the driver, a strategist (communicates with the driver), a timer (keeps everyone updated on the time), and a communicator (speaks with a member of our alliance team to make sure we're on the same page). Our stacker is fairly quick, usually making it back to the pad within 7 seconds. We communicate well with our alliance team well before matches so we can determine each other's strengths and weaknesses, ensuring a well-played match! Cons: Doesn't stack (though it hasn't put us at much of a disadvantage) 2003 Canadian Regional Judges Award 2003 Canadian Regional quarter-finalists Awards given by other teams: Team 235 - Best dressed team! woo hoo Team 47 - Best Defense Most Inspirational Team See you all in Houston!!!!!!!! (GO ARCHIMEDES!!) |

Spare Parts Database available at Nationals for teams to use
I posted this awhile ago but only a few teams have been able to respond and I haven't been able to e-mail all teams unfortunatly. Very few teams have been able to contribute their parts they'll be bringing to Houston for the database. It allows you to search for parts you need to repair you robot with and find what teams have it. If you could please download that and fill it out and send it back that would be excellent. This system will be in our pits for all to use, we just ask that everyone try to pitch in to make it work it's best. Thanks guys! You can download it from http://www.combbat.com/PartsForm97.xls. If you have any questions send me an e-mail at miketwalker@cfl.rr.com or reply to this thread. The sooner you can get them back the better since we'll be leaving Tuesday night so at the latest please try to send them back by Monday night or bring them to our pits Thursday morning. Thanks again! Good luck guys! Time for good ole' fun at Houston! See you there.

Team 980, The ThunderBots
Robot name: Yoda Pros: Our long telescoping arm hits the stack in 1.5 seconds (a little longer when the motor is reversing) and knocks over 5 to 6 columns of bins. The bins will be hit the ramp in 3 seconds (a little longer in reverse) with half or more making it to the carpet. We also have grabber arms that can rotate out 5 stacks wide for plowing the bins into our zone. We shift gears on the fly by rotating 2 sets of wheels up and down. They are all spinning constantly so we don't have to worry about grinding our gears when we shift. We have good pushing power in low gear (conveyor tread) and medium speed in high gear. We can also stack if the opportunity arises. Cons: We have chains running to each of the 8 wheels and we lost some in S. Calif., so we are stiffening our drive train. Our robot can't go under the bar, and it isn't as fast as some robots. Our center of gravity is higher than under-the-bar robots. (We didn't tip in Arizona but tipped once in S. Calif. Thanks a lot for ruining our record 696! [Just joking. They got us fair and square.]) ![]() Last edited by DougHogg : 08-04-2003 at 20:31. |

Team 47
We have gone to three regionals and have steadly improved at each one making improvements.
We are now at 100% with the following: 4 drive motors on a two speed gear box. Fast is fast and slow is powerful, we have shown we can push bots around. With six pneumatic tires we have super traction. Our automous mode ( we have many ) will hit the bins in ramp run in 2.4 seconds to 2.8 consistantly taking down 60% or more of the bins. We use a Virtual Compass Guidance system in automous mode. This is a self correcting system that uses a virtual heading of north and all movements are relative to this using redundant encoders on the drive motors. We are strong and can use our arm to reach stacks blocked by a bot. Note: For durability we have each joint clutched to prevent overloading and stress reducing repairs. Stop by our pit and have a look. |
