Go to Post Namaste. Maybe we all one day will spend our energy trying to raise our own level to match that of the competition rather than trying to tear others down. - Rich Kressly [more]

Exclamation Patch your Servers! Defacers Challenge Starts @ 2am

Remember all you webmasters and server admins to patch your servers. I don't really anticipate much but better to be safe than sorry.

What is the Defacers Challenge? Here are articles on it

Hackers Challenge Could Cause Internet Problems

Hackers around the world are being challenged to deface as many web sites as they can on Sunday. By doing so, they could win a prize. No one knows for sure where the challenge came from.
The web site defacers-challenge.com has been taken down several times over the past week in an attempt to prevent this planed attack. These efforts have not worked, though. The web site keeps popping right back up.

The challenge calls for hackers to deface as many web sites as they can tomorrow. It is not believed to be a major security threat. Web hosts and Internet surfers alike fear it will cause a lot of headaches. The attack is expected to be like Internet graffiti, where the hackers go in and change the content on web pages. Besides a change in content computer experts say it could slow down surfers.

Major computer sites like Amazon and Ebay should not be affected because they have too many security plans in place. The hackers are looking specifically for vulnerable systems. Experts at Network Computer Systems in Spokane have answered calls and e-mails from concerned clients. They say the best way to protect yourself is to update you computers security system today.

"Go to the manufacturer, find out if there are known security vulnerabilities in your server-software and get it taken care of before tomorrow,"said Brad Harley Network Computer Systems employee.

The FBI is taking the threat seriously. They plan to prosecute anyone found hacking.
