Well, when you put the contact in, you'll use a finger from your non-dominant hand to pull up the upper eyelid and also hold the eyelashes out of the way. Your middle finger on your dominant hand pulls the bottom eyelid down, and you'll have the contact balanced on your index finger ready to pop in your eye.

Here's a picture, but you probably won't need to hold your contact with two fingers like that.

I have trouble looking at that pic. It grosses me out. I won't be able to eat anything else tonight, I lost my apetite.

I tried lifting up my top eye lid but it I can't fit my finger in like that. It just pushes it down farther.

It was weird today (first day of school) when I walked into my first block class, I was the only person with glasses. I pretty much felt embarrased that I had glasses. Now I really want contacts, but I don't know if I can handle getting them.

Also, any of you who have seen my glasses know that they are the most embarrasing glasses to have. I don't care about saying it here because no one here, who will meet me in the future, will see them because I don't wear them at competitions.

Hm... I actually like glasses - they've grown to be a part of me.

But if glasses just aren't you and if contacts are painful or aggravating to use --> LASER EYE SURGERY

Laser eye surgery won't do anything for me. I have OA. (ocular albinism) I have this thing that looks like a virtual reality helmet and wiehgs like five pounds on my head. I could read at 20/10, my aquity now is 20/300, average is 20/20. I could also read words that were too light to see with the normal eye. It weighed so much though, I can't use it. My neck would hurt after wearing it for about two minutes. In case anyone is interested, it is called the ELVES, and a later model is called the Jordy Glasses.

Btw...I didn't count the battery which weighed about three pounds.

I play soccer and as a goalie have gotten kicked in the head rather often (that explains the soft spot in my head too) so one day I decided to go get contacts..

I was just like you- except because I'm deaf those eyes are all I'm living on.. It took me 5, yes thats right, 5 appointments to get them in. But ever since they've been an godsend- not only for sports, but robotics competitions, vacations, etc-

The moral of this story- Don't give up. If I could do it, so can you.. good luck and peace out..

I just told my parents and I think they are making an appointment. I am getting so worried about it now. I have a stomach ache and I am having trouble sleeping. I can't stop thinking about getting contacts, which is why I keep posting about it on here. I haven't felt this bad since the day I heard that I had to have eight teeth extracted. (about five years ago) I feel like they are going to cut my eye lid off or something even though I know that they won't.

Oh no! She found out!....j/k nah it's no big deal, it's a regular eye test than they show you how to put them in. Good luck.

Great...My mom just made the appointment. It is for some time in September. I think I am changing my mind about getting them. Isabel's picture didn't help either. (the one of the person putting the contact in their eye)

Well thanks everyone for saying this stuff, but I am starting to change my mind. If I do get them though, should I get the colored ones. I heard of people that try to change their eye color. I have blue eyes and I don't know if that looks good or not because I can't see peoples eyes. (unless I get right in their face and look real closely, but I don't think anyone wants me doing that)

the coloured ones look nice on some people, but dont suit everyone...personally, i think blue eyes are really nice, and i would love to have them, except they dont suit me. if you do opt for colour contacts, keep in mind that you dont want anything that looks really fake and unnatural.

also, if you do get contacts, you dont have to wear them every day and so you can just keep them for special occasions and sports...thats what i did when i first got mine.

I find the colored ones a lil' freaky, but that's just me (I find a lot of stuff a lil' freaky ).

To me, you should wear contacts just as much as your glasses (only when you need to I think).

At first, contacts can be very difficult to put in. It took me an hour the first time I was there. I got one eye in but couldn't get the other.

Now in the morning I can just pop them in, no problem at all.

For me, I use my left (non-dominant) hand and use my middle finger to pull down the lower lid. Then I use my index finger to pull up the eye lashes and push them against my eyebrows. This leaves my right hand free to insert the contact. I tried it the other way and couldn't get it to work.

If you want to prepare yourself early, you could wash your hands thoroughly, apply some disinfectant (ie contact clensing solution), and work on your technique of keeping your eyelids open. Then, insted of putting a contact in, gently touch the white part of your eye.

Just work on it every other day (you don't want to irritate your eye too much).
