it is definitely an IE6 problem. I am running IE5 (because I was too lazy to update it) and I have not had a single problem running cd, slashdot, ebay, or any other site.
Did anyone check the microsoft IE site and see if they know what's going on? |

Okay, so we know that this apparantly started happening suddenly, last night. Since it was so sudden, it is very very unlikely that it is was caused by IE or windows.... Simply because not everybody does windows updates in that amount of time. I haven't run a windows update and it happens to me.
While there is probably a bug in IE which allows this to happen (and always has allowed it), the problem probably started when a change was made to the php code which ultimately spits out HTML. There's something in the html that crashes something in IE and images stop working until you restart it. I tried validating the site through W3. W3 tried using an algorithm to detect what encoding the site is using. It failed. I suspect there may be some really odd character that is getting inserted into the HTML text somewhere after the last working image and before the first non-working image. If that's not the cause, this site is not using valid HTML. There's mismatching <font> tags all over the place, for example. According to standard, browsers aren't supposed to be able to support pages like this. I doubt this is the case though, I think it's some encoding problem. - Patrick |

Re: NOT just IE 6 not working
has anyone with this problem tried printing something off of IE? That doesn't work either. Is that related or is it just me?

Too bad Brandon's red emergency phone hasn't been hooked up to his house yet, then the CD server could call him at all hours, for him to fix it :-p

This has happened in the past.
I'm pretty sure I know what the problem is. I could explain, or I could fix... so I'll fix and then explain ![]() |

The bug seems to be on CD's end. To the naysayers saying slashdot is fine and blah blah blah...
Technically.. every site is broken, and every site is working. For those of you not seeing any problems on CD, every site is working. For those of you that are seeing problems on CD, you are also seeing at every other site which uses PHP to dynamically create pages. The problem seems to be some kind of missing fragment of CD's script that isn't allowing the pictures to appear. It seems every image not in /forums/images/___.ext will not appear. (For example: /forums/images/smilies/mad.gif does not appear, but /forums/images/posticonnew.gif does [next to spotlights]) When Properties of an unviewable image is displayed, the correct URL is shown, but the filesize is labeled as -1 bytes. When you go to any other site after ChiefDelphi that uses PHP, this same problem shows up... to you. Which is why when you, say, go to Google, it's fine. Because Google doesn't use PHP. But SlashDot does. The only way I see around this, until CD fixes whatever the cause of this is to close all IE windows, clear your Temporary Internet Files, and load back up to other sites, and save CD for the end of the trail. Yeah, I was getting this problem on certian websites, and not on others. And some of those websites are coming back. And Brandon says CD is getting fixed now too. So I guess all we can do it wait and see.
