To all Michigan teams, there is an awsome thing going on at the DEE (Detroit Electronic Expo) on November 15, 2003. Here's the e-mail I recieved:

"Hello,

I recently came across your website and would like to help in promoting
awareness of the FIRST robotic organization and competitions. With this in
mind, I am extending an invitation to you and your team to showcase your
robotic creations within the robotics area of the Detroit Electronic Expo on
November 15 2003 at Detroit's State Theatre. My apologies for the short
notice. Currently, we will be having representatives from the Science
Olympiad and the DARPA autonomous vehicle competition and would love to
include FIRST in this showcase.

I have attached our recent press release to familiarize yourself with DEX.
If you are interested in speaking more of this or have any questions, please
call me at 313-363-7607. Until then, good luck with your endeavors and hope
to hear from you soon.

There are currently I think 7 teams going. 1, 5, 27, 67, 1188 I know for sure. If you would like any info. on this event, e-mail Anthony at anthony@detroitelectronic.com (sorry really I can't give much info on it, but here is what I know of so far about it):

This event is to show-case your robot (any or all that you have operational) to other people, and get interested in FIRST. There will be a DDR section, a lil' playing field (I doubt official). You can use the radio to control the robot on the field, but in the "pit", you must use a tether.

It is from what I've read about it so far. If I could find the e-mail w/ the press release, I'd upload that. Transhed, do you by any chance have it, or know of anyone on your team that does?

I would love to coordinate next year's DEX with FIRST (or a group of regional teams) that will be more in guidleines to your official rulings. Maybe an actual competition? Either way, my overal goal is to bring further attention to your great organization in hopes to drive interest in robotics (and technology in general) in our student patrons.

Where do you see that?

I know a few other area teams, 470 included, recieved that letter Raven_Writer posted. I'm not positive if 470 will be attending due to other obligations that day and the day before. I believe it's in debate still.

[edit]Update: 470 will not be attending with our robot. Some members might show up (myself included) but we have "Little Engineers Day" the same day and won't be able to make it to DEX.[/edit]

That is from the post I made. I read or was told (forgot which, but I really think read) that the field was not going to be official. This isn't really comp., but to show-case the robots anyhow, so I don't really see how an official playing field would really matter. You've got the pits, and other areas to drive your robots also.
