Re: Man, I sure didn't expect Frodo to ... **POSSIBLE SPOILERS**

I thought the Last Movie was great! I thought the ending was really awesome....it could have been a little better, but i thought it was still awesome. I thought that the fact that it was "drawn out" was alright, because it left out the questions about what happened to....and yeah..Can't wait till the hobbit....eh?.....cuz it is comming out....Peter Jackson will get paid millions of dollars to make it....it has to come out...right?

Okay, I loved the movie, but was anyone unimpressed with the CG flames? especially the mountain beacon's, they could've made that look real.

Re: Man, I sure didn't expect Frodo to...

I really liked it, but when Frodo ran into the mountain, the CG work was utter crap. I mean, it was like he was running on a moving sidewalk!

Anyway, very good movie, but also to add, I really wanted Hugo to do something Agent Smith-like in this movie, it would just be so funny....

Re: Man, I sure didn't expect Frodo to ... **POSSIBLE SPOILERS**

I feel outnumbered...

I saw it last night and I wasn't too happy with it. First off, the best part of the book of RoTK was the Scouring of the Shire and the description of the year 1420. The complete removal of that sequence bothered me. Also, where were the Houses of Healing? The power of Merry's blade could have been explained there, the healing hand of the king, and the Faramir/Eowyn sequence could have been inserted. The Paths of the Dead were too undramatic and the Palantir served nearly no purpose. Lord Denethor was not as noble and high as he was in the books.

I was extemely pleased with the battle outside Minas Tirith. The chanting of "grond" while it smashed the gates, the charge of the Rohirrim, and the ferocity of the battle was excellent. Also when Aragorn alighted from the Corsairs of Umbar, the "great deadly light" could be seen in his eyes. Minas Tirith was built nearly the way I had imagined it, with the great forecourt of the white tree and all.

Overall, I like the Fellowship movie better.

Btw, for those who have read the trilogy, what was your favorite book of the three? I liked RoTK best, because of the Scouring of the Shire.

Re: Man, I sure didn't expect Frodo to ... **POSSIBLE SPOILERS**

My perspective is that of someone who's never read the novels and did not see either of the first two films in this trilogy in the movie theater. I just saw Return of the King this afternoon.

I liked it a lot. These three films are among the best movies I've seen in years, and I'm glad to see that the cost and allure of computer generated special effects has been diminished, such that it allows storytelling to move to the forefront once more. Overall, through the three films, I've been impressed with how many intricate plots were taking place at one time and the skill with which the filmmakers told those stories. Cutting back and forth didn't at all distract from the movies.

I'm inclined to say that this was my favorite of the three movies, but that may be solely because it's fresh in my mind. In particular, I enjoyed the scenes with those enormous elephant-like things, the giant eagles, and, for whatever reason, Legolas. I have been giving thought to some of the potential racial stereotypes that were "employed" by the film, but I'm not sure how I feel about them yet.

I didn't like Frodo or Gollum in this movie one bit. I think they were both the weakest performances.

I totally do not understand why they boarded that ship at the end. At all. I'd appreciate it greatly if someone would explain that to me.

The Elves felt that it was their time to depart Middle Earth and move to the Grey Havens where they will remain I assume for the rest of their immortal lives. The RotK ushers in the Age of Men and ends the Age of Elves in a sense. Glandalf, Galadriel, and the other Elves took Frodo with them because he really couldnt be happy in the Shire any more. That's how I understand it.

Thumbs up Re: Man, I sure didn't expect Frodo to ... **POSSIBLE SPOILERS**

I thought they did about as well as anyone could expect at turning those books into reasonably-lengthed movies without losing too much. I would say that the trilogy together are probably some of the best movies ever both in story and in technical aspects. The more you watch it the more you notice, but I think i'm going to wait for the DVD rather than watch it a third time

Re: Man, I sure didn't expect Frodo to ... **POSSIBLE SPOILERS**

Well, hopefully they put it into the extended edition. I thought that the ordeal with "Sharkey" was pretty important. Of course I'm a big LOTR buff so I'd like to have seen them do the ENTIRETY of the books on the big screen. But if they had done that then the movies each would have lasted about half a day to a day. It's amazing that they were able to cut it down to 3 to 3 and a half hours.
