Talking Geocaching!!!!

Hey hey hey, I discovered a very cool thing that i thought i would share with the CD community.

Its called Geocaching (Geo cash ing).

Basically, its a big treasure hunt. All you need to play is a GPS. I picked one up to try it. All you do is go to the website, find a coordinate near you, punch it in, and go.

The concept is this; Someone goes out to a place in the woods, or something, and hides a container, ammo-box, or anything that seals. They put some things like McDonalds toys, dice, necklaces, (basically junk) ect, into it, put a log book in it, and hide it. Then they write down it's coordinates, anc submit the "cache" on the website.

Then, people like you and I go find it, put something in it, take something out, and log your entry. It sounds booring, but its a lot of fun.

There are caches in EVERY state, and almost EVERY country. There are thousands right in my back yard of Michigan State Land.

You might ask, "how is this hard? I know where it is!" Well, lol, no you dont! The GPS isnt perfectlly accurate, and trees and buildings can disturb your signal. Some people have multi-leg caches, to make it even more entertaining.

Caches are also very different. Some of them, you can drive right up to. Others, you have to solve riddles and math problems to get to the next step. And still others, have terrain so difficult, that you have to scale a wall to get to it, or climb a tree, or rent a boat and reach an island in the middle of a lake. I have experienced all of these!

Geocaching is a wonderful hobby!

Re: Geocaching!!!!

Most modern GPS's record your route thus you just follow it back and you are never "lost." What's also fun w/ GPS's is to mark where you start then go backpacking into the woods for the night and then try to find your way out w/out the help of the GPS. Tests your navigations skills and memory. And if you do feel lost you have your GPS to lead you home.
