2004 Motor specs - Part 1
O.K., as most CD Forums Vets have come to expect; I will be posting all of the motor specs for this year's motor. The good news for me is that there is only one new motor that I have to do research on.
Here is my list: 1. CIM (aka Chiaphua) - Same as last year. 2. Bosch drill motor - Same as last year. 3. Nippon-Denso window motors - Same as last year. 4. Globe motors - Same as last year, and the year before, etc. 5. Van door motor - Same motor specs as last year. Has an improved housing cover, but the performance is the same as last year. The mounting interface is also the same. 6. Keyang seat motor - same motor as 2002 (and 2001). I compared it to many old seat motors and it is the same motor with a different date code and revision letter. Dr. Joe's motor spreadsheet has the data. 7. Fisher-Price motor - This one is different! Last year's motor was made by Mabuchi and this year's is Johnson electric. It looks alot like the 2002 Fisher-Price (very good news), but I am confirming. I have a call in to my inside source at Johnson Electric and he will send me the motor data spreadsheet. I will forward as soon as I confirm. Lastly, I will post the Keyang exact specs when I confirm the Fisher-Price specs. All the other motors have documentation from last year's FIRST specs. -Paul |

Also, the 2004 Johnson F-P does not appear to be the same as the 2002 Johnson F-P. The part numbers do not match, and it has a 19 instead of 20 tooth gear.

Paul, see if your inside source can confirm whether this link leads to the right part:
http://www.johnsonelectric.com/produ...?ProdID=130--A It's a Johnson F-P motor, but different than the 2002--in fact, it's specs make it in some respects closer to a 2003 Mabuchi, most notably in the free speed. But it's got much more torque (almost 2x), and more power (about 1.7x), and better efficiency. That's more in keeping with the old Johnson. The gear at the end really doesn't mean much, because that is put on by F-P; not Johnson Electric. You are probably right about it being different from the 2002 motor. The gentleman at J-E usually gets back to me in about 2 or 3 days so I should have confirmation soon. -Paul |

The specs for the last year’s van door motor were different for CW vs CCW rotation. From what perspective is that, viewed facing the shaft or viewed looking out from the gear housing? Also, has it been confirmed that the specs are the same as last year? Not only is the motor housing different, but the gears are different too.

The specs are always defined for CW & CCW when looking at the shaft.

With regards to the Van door motor, it is defined looking at the motor from the end of the shaft. The van door motor spec differences between CW and CCW are pretty unnoticeable that I do not even worry about them. The Bosch and the Tiagene motors are interchangeable (as far as fit and function are concerned, not as far as FIRST is concerned). We used a Tiagene motor on our primary robot during prototyping last yearand replaced it with the Bosch for the competition season. In short, you can treat them as the same.
