It's the big orange box on a black base with a big shaft clamp in it.

Same here. I have never seen anyone use it because of it's speed. It is really a pretty amazing little thing though. If you take it apart it is a very small motor and an all plastic gearbox. However, I put a pipe in that clamp and couldn't find any way to stop it from moving. Might be a good thing to keep in your car for a spare jack or something.

and also, it breaks easily:)
it just seems to me that the torgue motor is just an oversized servo.

I'd have to disagree. The torgue motor itself have very little power(yes i do realise that breaking the arm thing was a figure of speech, but just making it clear so there wouldn't be any misconception on the capacity of the torque motor), and, although with it's greatly geared down, it's still fairly weak. Our team tried to apply it for several things (just because it was new last year), and all we got was one broken torque motor which now back drives.
If you want to go for a motor that doesn't require too much power, use the tiny motor that came with a kit(the motor that came in a bag w/ surgical tubing and stuff) and gear em down yourself. |
