Re: pic: 294: Orange Tide
I like it a lot. I have a few questions:
1.) What are the four "trapezoidal prisms" coming up from the chassis? 2.) How did you cut the numbers in that plate? 3.) Why the different wheels? 4.) What are the shiny pieces on the sprockets in the right side of the picture? EDIT: 5.) How are the wheels affixed to the axles/sprockets? Last edited by sanddrag : 09-02-2004 at 15:07. |

2. Mentor Scott Tupper has a machine shop with a waterjet, we waterjetted the numbers out 3. More traction while turning (we may notch the smooth tires). 4. Those are custom hubs (made with a mill). We felt that the kit 45 tooth sprockets were to heavy, so we made these. The hubs bolt on to the disc part of the sprocket. The hubs have 2 set screws, as well. 5. Wheels to axle: We made a custom keyed hub and pressure fitted it in. We also have an internal star washer to keep it from sliding. If there are any other questions, I will be happy to answer them. -Daniel |

Re: pic: 294: Orange Tide
For notching the smooth tires, I'm not sure if you know this already but the wheels (the black plastic part) are actually triangular shaped underneath just like the tire. So, if you take off rubber, you will hit plastic at some point.

Ok, thanks. We have notched tires before, and we also have tread material we can use.

Re: pic: 294: Orange Tide
Nice TIG welded chassis. Looking at the photo I can tell you're going with a "tank drive". What motors are you planning on using?

Yes, it is a tank drive. We are using the drill motor geared down 4.5 to 1.
