Blue Drill Motor wires?

I an realy confused! I am wondering if you could replace the blue wires on the drill motors with 10 guage wire. I looked on the FIRST Q&A and they say that it is illegal to do that, and they also say it is ok. What do we do. We are doing a swivel drive this year, and it would be nice to not have wire splices in the units.
