Go to Post I got something totally different from my FIRST experience. to me the spirit of FIRST is all about sharing. during the 6 week build period, you share yourself with the other people on your team. at the competition, you share your creation with everyone who watches your 'bot play the game. - George1902 [more]

Re: Driving to Championships - ideas?

I am not sure of any FIRST road trip games having spent only 1 hour each way on the bus and flying the rest. I do know my fair share of standard road games however having made many a 12 hour drives each way over the weekedn to watch HOKIES!!! down in blacksburg. Some of the better ones are mad libs, state plates, roadkill bingo, 20 questions and what not. However one of my more favorite games to play I juts learned a few months ago where it is kinda like a mental strategy/ memorary/knowledg thing. The basic version is you pick any four letter word (appropriate foourletter words). Then everybody tries to guess the word by saying other four letter words and you saying how many are right and how many are in the right place (though not which ones) until they figure it out. It sounds relativly easy but it can go for quite some time even over "bulb" or "dogs." Once you get more advanced you can do more then 4 letters and move up to 5 or 6 or even 7!!! It can get quite amusing (if you are a nerd like that anyways ) The the person who got it right goes next and whoever has the most at the end of the trip, next stop or until sick of the game would be conisdered the winner

Re: Driving to Championships - ideas?

Team 121 is also driving to Atlanta, were looking at 18-20 hours of driving. FUN! ::sarcasm, sarcasm::

I'm personally out for revenge this year. I remember waking up one year on the bus to find myself being duct taped to the seat, and I'd had my shoe laces tied together. What a fun prison trap that was. Well someone's getting it cause I'm bringin' my duct tape. I suggest u do the same for some good laughs.

This sure will be an experice that I wont forget.

Here are the rules for my vehicle
  1. Drive fast, but not out of control (still beat the Technokats though )
  2. No country music
  3. David may not sing.
  4. Amanda may not get drunk from cough syrup/cold medication
  5. I am the captain/comander and chief/general of my vehicle, anyone who doubts me/challenges that will find themself left at a gas station.

I hope you enjoy your trip

Re: Driving to Championships - ideas?

Team 343 usually has Video tapes of other regionals to watch on the road. Lots of scouting done on the trip there. For us, this time though, it is only a 2 hour drive. This will probably hurt our scouting efforts.

Good luck to all, I look forward to seeing everyone there!

We are thinking of various "games" or "activities" for our trip. Stuff like "take a picture of the most '45's you can find", or "find the most FIRST team numbers" on the road signs. Oh, the fun we are gonna have!

We plan on leaving early on Wednesday morning (4/14). I am sure that many teams are going to drive the same route as us, which means that we could even coordinate some activities.

So, if you have any ideas (goofy or not), post 'em.

Thanks,
Andy B.
All the cool Indiana teams are driving to Nationals Amanda's brother, Andy, is supplying a good amount of classic rock for us to sing terribly on the way down, and I'm bringing Dramamine and sleeping pills to drown out the sounds of their voices after I lose mine. We're leaving late Tuesday night, and 71 trips usually end up to a bad karaoke bar with Pepsi as drinks.

I don't know about you but i could sleep for ten hours. But for the ones that can't bring plenty of AA batteries a cd player and lots and lots of music.

We always play cards using a suitcase as a table. Alot of the freshmen bring gameboys. I however on the VCU and Chesapeake trip i brought a laptop and about 6 DVDs

Re: Driving to Championships - ideas?

i think i prefer our route of travel....flight!
yes, it is more expensive, and yes, we do need to do more fundraising and "chipping-money-in-ing" but i personally think it's well worth every cent!

greg, i like your idea as well, ipods forever!

ok, just kidding, we aren't flying.....i'll be using some of everyone's ideas for our two upcoming 16 hour bus rides! See y'all down there!
